Ooooo, I'm so excited! My EF 100-400 IS is shipping tomorow. Finally, I'll
have something to shoot with besides my kit lens.

Anyway, I'm really torn between which extender to buy for my new lens.
Since they both cost about the same I would really like to have the 2.0
for obvious reasons, but I've read isome accounts that I'll get better results
with the 1.4. Can anyone here give me a compelling reason for choosing
to buy the 1.4 extender over the 2.0?

Your input is highly valued and much appreciated by this newbie photog.

Thanks.

The 1.4X TC is much easier to get good results with, AND you only lose one f/stop. The 2X will cost you two full f/stops, which can be a real penalty when the maximum aperture at 400mm is already f/5.6. This means f/11 which normally equates to much slower shutter speeds and/or higher ISO setting.

Get the 1.4. See how you like it. Then, if you feel you need more, buy the 2X.

Thanks, belmondo. Sorry for beating this topic to death. I did a search (which
I always do after I post a question ) and came up with some good hits.
