A couple of years back I decided to jump into the digital world. I did the research and settled on the G2. All was wonderful with the world. Then....

I already had a set of USM lenses for my Elan so I decided to get a digital SLR. The 10D was my choice and all was right with the world again. Then...

I 'realized' my TTL flash really wasn't good enough since the 10D allowed for E-TTL type flashes so I got a 550EX and all was right again. Then...

Mounting the 550 on the camera limited my flash angles so I decided I really needed a ST-E2 transmitter. Now I truly had everything I needed. Then...

With all the talk about L series lenses I decided I must have at least one of those so I bought a 17-40 F4 L. Now I was content. Then....

I really needed to take still lifes without any camera shake so I just had to have the RS-80N3 remote switch. Now I could rest. Then....

Noticing the camera was heavier due to the addition of the big L lens I had to have the BG-ED3 grip because you sure don't want to drop such an expensive toy. Of course I had to get the extra battery since there was an empty slot for it. Of course I also had to get the E1 strap that went with the Big Ed and since I'm going to be walking around with my camera I needed the HoodMan LCD protector. Now I have everything.

Anyone have some thoughts on the 70-200 F4 L?

HA! Your pain is just beginning.

You sound like a perfect candidate for the L-caholics 12-step program currently being developed.

lol,..

Actually,. You SHOULD get the 70-200mm f/4 and all will be good in the world. Then.....

.... get the f/2.8 IS version. You will be content. Then....

You will desire longer focal lengths.. you'll take the easy way and get the 1.4X and 2X t-cons (see,. I skipped a "Then" here by offereing both T-cons with one "Then" )

These will work with your 70-200mm to add lots of telephoto goodness.
You will be very happy. Then....

..you will be looking at the big primes..  8)

Have faith.. soon

ALL YOUR INCOME ARE BELONG TO CANON!

The 70-200mm f/4 is a grand bargain and the perfect companion for your 17-40mm :)

LOL!!!!

I feel very similar and have only half the stuff you have!! I am also really trying to get away from being obsessed with upgrades and new gear etc and am trying to limit myself to just taking the best photos I can with the gear that I have and the restrictions that this places on me, although it is hard. What helps with this is....................that I also have a wife who recently worked out how much I have been spending on all the little extras such a cards and batteries etc and is now keeping a close eye on the credit card statements. Must remember to get a new wife.. sorry I mean credit card.

It's tough, because it always seems like the best shot of your life is hiding in the next lens on your wish list. :) :D

Ditto. Get the 2.8 non-IS and put the money you save on the IS towards the 100-400IS L.

Does that mean one needs 12 "L" lenses to be satisfied? I think I could get by with 4 or 5. :)

a t-shirt that says the following

-on the front
everything was alright in the world, untill

-on the back
I brought a camera, then my wife left me, the kids left me, I have no money and all I take photos off are Ducks and Flowers

so somebody shot me now!
