Hey there gang.
So I am super excited because this coming Sat. I have the awesome opportunity to help assist the best photojournalistic style wedding photographer in my area. It really happened by chance that I even have the opportunity, but I happened to cold call him at a time when he happened to be scouting the scene for a second shooter/assistant.
My goal one day is to start my own photography buisness that focuses on this same style, so I would love to learn whatever I can from this experience, but this Sat. is kindof my interview so the heat is on.
I want to respect the way he works and help him as little or as much as he needs me to. I wanted to see if you pro's out there could offer any kind of advice as to different protocall for this sort of thing.
He has me placed in the 4th row on the grooms side for the ceremony working with my 20D and a 100mm 2.0 and wants me to get some close up's of the bride and the 'goodies' along with a pic (with flash) of the dad and bride coming down the isle. I most likely wont be able to bounce- should I just shoot direct with the risk of the pic being too harsh? Is it okay to lean into the isle to get a good shot?
What are some of your "pet peeves" with second shooters?
What are some major 'no-no's'?
What are some "must-do" shots?
Any advice welcome. Thanks in advance for helping out an aspiring wedding photographer!
