scanning slides and film

I have a whole bunch of slides and b&w film sloshing about. I have a scanner (epson 1260) with a film/slide attachment.

What is the best setting to scan film? (regardless of scanner)

Can they be scanned to raw format? (probably no with my scanner as it predates raw)

I would love to get my slides and all in to digital forma so I can do some PP in Lightroom.

Any hints would be much appreciated.

Highest resolution you can get (although "interpolation" doesn't usually do a lot); this may require some experimantation. And save them as TIFF or uncompressed JPEG for best results.
