GL2 1.7 vers Canon Camera 3.2

My friends and I both shot 10 photos of the same subject under same lighting conditions, I used my Videocam GL2 1.7 MP . He used Canon Power Shot 3.2MP digital camera.
There was no difference in color or detail when we printed them at 4x6 at local photofinsher. Infact my GL2 shots were sharper, could be the lens on the GL2 makes up for the lower MP's?
Any comments?

(1) The number of megapixels is not the only thing that determines the quality of a photo and (2) at that small size, 4x6, about 2 megapixels is enough to capture all the detail that you can see.

Why your print looks sharper: it could be the lens, but also other factors play a role, for example most digital cameras sharpen the image and your camera might have sharpened your photo more than your friends'.

If you print an image at 300 pixels per inch, it will look quite sharp. To print an image of 4x6 inch at 300 PPI, you need 4 x 300 x 6 x 300 = 2.1 megapixels.

If you blow up your photo and the photo of your friend to 8x10 or larger, you'll certainly see a difference.
