I have a 30D and a 10D. I am going to the military and want a compact to use for traveling. What are the recommendations for Canon's?
G6 or G7?

Compact size, handling & build quality = G7
Image quality and value for money = G6
Compatibility with your existing kit (battery & cards) = G6

For a new one, I do not think you have other choice then G7 now.

I would add to Chris:
-IS, zoom range, DIGIC III, easy ISO settings: G7
- Swivel Lcd, Raw capability: G6
G6 would be used and G7 new.

Save some money and grab an older G5 used somewhere. That was the last "real" G in my opinion anyway.

Why do you consider it the last real "G" and not the G6?

Margie - the G6 really was the last one from a features standpoint to me - but i just preferred the ergonomics of the older G's with the centered lens on the body. The G6 had the look and feel of a Nikon Coolpix to me........

Some people even consider that the G3 was the last real "G"! It is really subjective.
The fact is that Canon probably started to make compromises between experts and amateurs with the G6 but all Gs are good cameras (for instance the AF of the G6 is far better than the G5's and the G6 reacts faster than the G5). On the other hand, the G5 was better for treating noise and was black (as is the G7 :) now).
Some say that the best image quality was from the G3 but some other preferred the Pro 1 as it was the only P&S with an L lens. In short, if you are happy with your G6, then it is the best for you.

Thank you both for explaining...
Actually the G6 is new (used) to me in the last month or so. I have had other digicams plus the DSLR and am very happy with the G6 when I want something lighter to carry that still has many features of the DSLR. I really like it!
