I was just on the Rob Galbraith forum and Chuck Westfall confirms this about the 70-300 DO and the 280-300L...

Re: Canon 70-300mm DO IS USM Delayed?

The actual USA shipping date for both of these lenses has not been finalized yet, but it looks like they will be delayed at least until June. No further info is available at this time.

Do you suppose there's any connection between their 'later than promised' ship dates on lenses and the Mk II? I was at Canon Repair Center in Irvine today, and everybody there was as uninformed on the subject as I am.

You could allways leave him some money so he could send you a 'gift' when it is available : :D
Here in australia, gifts that come into the country are exempt from taxes (i'm pretty sure).Maybe your country has a similar set up?

In my country (Canada) It depens on the value of the gift. If it's value is more than 60$, you'll have to pay for customs and canadian taxes. We can always ask for a lesser declared value but you can't put an insurance on it for the real value of the item. -- that suks --

I've bought stuff in the USA before and have it shipped here, and never needed to pay taxes. Even on things that had cost $300. Probably they don't check every package and I have been luck so far...
