I currently shoot all JPEG, but I haven't had my camera long and I'm still trying to get used to it right now. I've also hardly used any of the software that came with my camera.

Just want to do an informal poll on how people shoot thier photos.
I shoot mostly RAW, but I use JPEG when: (1) I need faster shot-to-shot times, (2) I'm just getting snapshots, (3) when I use the PIC (basic zone) modes  . Those instances are all pretty rare -- I'd say I'm at about 90% RAW. (Note, my dReb is new, but I had shifted over to RAW shooting with my G3 a few months before making the switch to dSLR, so this is a continuation of my previous shooting habits, with extra joy at the increased power of RAW, especially exposure compensation & color temp WB.)

I have to admit, I used to shoot all jpg until I tried shooting RAW based on all of the advice and explanations concerning RAW that I read right here on this forum.
So I decided just to try shooting RAW for one "shoot" to see my reaction to it. And I loved it....
I haven't shot a jpg since.
I've had to buy more compact flash cards .....
But RAW is now my mode of choice for shooting.

I shoot RAW most of the time.
I only shoot jpeg when I'm on holiday, space is an issue which I hope to have resolved soon... :(

Just wanted to draw your attention to a previous poll on this subject in the "G" Forum...
The poll was launched with a somewhat less diplomatic/more slanted set of options.. the last option (both have there merits) was later added and ended up receiving the most votes... well you can see for your self;

Anyways,. yet more interesting discussion
Oh me? About 90% RAW,. but there are still occasions where I will compromise what I belive to be the better option image wise for overall speed and card capacity.

I hope we're *not* going to discuss RAW-vs-JPEG again.....

CDS:
The Powershot Gx/Sxx RAW files are more limited than DSLR ones (no exp.compensation or colorspace selection), at least when Canon soft (or 3rd party one using Canon libraries as BreezeBrowser) is used. Of course PS CS CameraRAW plugin changed that, but in general digicam RAW files are not so useful in comparison.
Despite that, I use RAW all the time even in my S50 since day 1, because its advantages, but I think the RAW advantages in those cameras are less evident than in DSLRs.

I use RAW all the time because it is much easier to handle, especially with Photoshop CS. Adjusting exposure compensation with RAW is much easier than adjusting levels, and adjusting white balance is much easier than adjusting color balances. It actually saves me time for post-processing. I have no idea why people think RAW is tedious.

I shoot RAW the great majority of the time, but occasionally I will find myself in a situation where I'm primarily interested in minimizing file size, and in-camera write speeds.
I answered More RAW, some JPEG.

I agree Cloudless,. I would shoot jpeg if there were circumstances wher I knew I would be doing ZERO post processing.. (that's the 10% of the time) ..as I find it much easier to work on RAW files.

If my CF had more memory and if I had more time I would shoot more in RAW. What I do right now is take most of my photos in jpg, but when I think I have a really good composition I also take a shot in RAW. For now, this gives me the best of both.

I've only taken 50 photos with my new D-Rebel. All in jpg. I've fully intended to try some shots in raw but after reading this thread, I'll be wasting no more time.

Very interesting............
I've never shot RAW ever and I might have to give it a try.
Especially since its more popular than JPEG!!!
Gotta buy me a bigger card and a bigger hardrive :-)

I can assure you that when i get my xdrive i'll shoot strictly RAW...there is no reason not to, especially with PSCS

I normaly shot only RAW. It gives you so much more flexibility. Since I'm using an X's Drive there is no problem about storage.

I started using JPEG and moved to RAW eventually, again after plucking up courage through visiting here. I recently got C1 and boy, do I wish that I got it a year ago!
C1 makes the RAW conversion much easier. It has great interface and for me, is intuitive.
I find that RAW images give much more latitude in post processing. Hence my mistakes of which there are many, are more likely to be recoverable.

I've seen various compressions with RAW and was wondering if Photoshop CS has any issues with accepting certain types of RAW files, and are there any specific limitations to using RAW files in Photoshop?

Perhaps like most, I began with jpeg but increasingly started shooting RAW. Currently, working in PSCS but looking to try C1.

This is probably not best topic for this question, but based on current results, its close enough...
When people are talking about RAW and applications that they use for transforming them into something that they can use in Photoshop, they are usually talking about Microsoft Windows-only applications. Has anyone managed to develop good workflow for Linux/*BSD/UNIX platforms, which would do the same thing?
I know that there is at least one tool for transforming Canon's RAW into other formats (dcraw from http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/), but google doesn't seem to be able to produce lot of discussion about it. As a result, at least for now, I've settled down to use JPEGs (and even then I usually skip that step, where I should fix color levels, etc. and use them as they come out of the camera).

There is a Linux app.... alas,. I can not remember it's name.. :(
There's this,..
http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/
DC Raw plug in for Gimp,...
...but I don't think this what I am thinking of.. ther are a handfull of Linux users on the forum who may be able to help here.
