Here's a flower shot I took in my front yard. I don't know the flowers well myself, but am lucky to have a neighbor who loves to plant new ones all the time. This is just one of many he planted recently along our side of our shared fence:

C&C always welcome!

Looks awesome.

Perhaps a little more DOF to bring us further into the flower. If it's in your front yard it shouldn't be too hard to reshoot.

Very cool shot.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

This was taken just after I got my macro lens and I really knew very little about how to use its narrow depth of field to my advantage. I thought f/2.8 was cool, so tried sticking to that for most of my first shots, like this one. What do you think would look better? Somewhere around 9-11?

Normally flowers in my yard live a very short and precarious life. My little ones love to trample and shred flowers almost as much as they like picking them as gifts for me. Thankfully, these are on the outside of the gate. The locked gate. lol So there just might be a chance for a re-shoot on these ones!

You may need a flash to support the narrower aperture.
Beautiful colors in the flower.

Thanks poloman. By a flash, do you mean to use the built in flash or a separate flash of some kind?

Try different f/stops and see which works best, even 5.6 would help. Nice flower though! Looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks gardengirl. I'd love to be out shooting right now. I've got the boys down for naps and am itching to get clicking, but we are having a wild wind storm this morning. The trees in our front yard are about to blow in half. Don't think that'd make the re-shoot very easy today. lol

Hope to get out there soon though. :) Thanks for the advice.
