Looks a nasty lil blighter, similar body shape to that of the redback...

Hi Dave
It is from the same Genus and the can hurt you when they bite.
There are articles where children have been bitten and they had to use Red Back Antivenom to treat them

Interesting. I know black house spiders can give nasty bites...
