shooter's block

Do any of you suffer from "shooter's block"? its when you take your camera out of the bag and cant find anything interesting to shoot? do you find it easier to shoot with a partner or do you shoot alone?

any tips on shaking off shooter's block? :p

Oh boy...
I know there are some "back to the basics" thread out there... Those may be of use.

I look through my older photos from when I first got my camera and try re-taking them with my newer skills. OR I may go "hmm, I want to shoot birds... oh, I need a longer lens... hmmm, okay - NEW LENS!"

As for single vs. partner... I like shooting by myself most of the time - but having someone else around is nice as well...Depends on my mood and the subject.

When you have shooters block, process.
There is usually no exscuse, but when the weather is crappy and I don't feel liek rigigng something up at home (which I never do, I have no lighting gear or shooting table or something, maybe i'll get something in the future), I'll just process, catch up on stuff that should had been done before.

Go to a toy store and explore! Seriously, you'll find a lot of things you can buy and shoot at home.

I just tell the misses to get dolled up and go out for a shoot. But she doesn't like doing it as much any more :-(

to be honest I bring out nifty.. when I can't think of anything I want to shoot the prime wide open in a park or on a walk usually gets me back to normal.

Just think on this, that your pay check won't be there, if you don't come back with photos. All tension is gone in sec :twisted:
For me, this is main difference, when shooting for money. You have to bring photos back, even if it's not right day, not right weather, you don't feel good or something. It's not all that great, but it's not all that bad either :)

I actually thought about this last night (sad that I think about POTN while sleeping...) - something else I do is I browse around at all the great pictures out there and go "WOW! I want to get something like that!" And the procede to figure out how to get a shot like that...

The Worldwide Photo Day challenges in the "Activities" section is also a good one for shaking the block. They really encourage you to step outside your norm and shoot something else.

thanks for all the tips everyone! the weather here just sucks right now but i do have a plan! hopefully, when the sun comes out, ill break out my 100mm macro and try some bug shots! :D

Yes, I'd agree with Timbernet - photo.net is a good source of ideas. But as an aside, I wouldn't count on them for too much technical help - stay here for that.;)

I definitely believe shooting with a partner is beneficial. I love my shooting partner in photo...we have a great relationship. we are always pushing, trying to out do each others shots! But then there are times when our creativity helps each other...like in this one difficult shot that we wanted to get, of a reflection of a girl in a moving creek, it took both of us to get the shot to come out right. Anyway...just my two cents
