Burning to cd-rw

Another newbie question....I burn my images to a cd right away, just as suggested in Scott Kelby's Photoshop Elelments book.....but when I go to open the files in Elelments, the files are read only files and can not be worked with. I'm not using any type of aftermarket software, just buring them with what's in my computer.

Do I have to check a box I missed? Or am I totatlly out to lunch...

A CD-R is a read-only medium, so the files on the CD-R are read-only, you can't modify them.
To modify them, you copy them to a read-write medium, such as your disk, make them read-write, and there you can work with them...
Or you open the file in Elements from the CD and save it to another location (such as your harddisk)

A CDRW disk can have files dragged and dropped into it, but I don't think files can be saved from with an application.

"Drag and Drop" requires formatting, which I think Windows or Roxio can do. After formatting, you can then use Windows Explorer to copy and delete files. I have not tried to edit and replace files on the CD through an application, but I think the only way to do that is to save to the hard drive, and then use Explorer to copy back (replacing the old file.)

A CD-RW, if formatted as such by ROXIO or similar product, works just like a disk. You should be able to read and write to it from any application that can read and write to disk.

But I'm troubled by something...what are you doing trying to write to the image copies that you've saved to CD which, I presume, are backups of your original images? :shock: The purpose of copying them to CD right away, as suggested by your book, is so that you'll have a backup in case something happens to the images on disk.
