Is original EXIF-data always destroyed when photo file is somehow modified e.g. resized and then saved?

I am using both Adobe PhotoShop LE 5.0 and PaintShopPro 6.0 and I am wondering if it is just these programs that do such thing.

Is PhotoShop (non-LE, full version) any different in this matter or am I just missing something with my present programs?

Matti,

Versions of Photoshop before 7 do not maintain EXIF data (PS7 is supposed to be different - haven't tested yet), so I can't imagine that PSLE would be different. I'm not sure about PSP.

One option you could use, if you have a Canon digicam, is BreezeBrowser. This allows you to copy EXIF data from the orignal file to an edited JPG or TIFF file.

It is not necessary. The graphics utility (ThumbsPlus) that I use to cataloge and print my photos saves the EXIF date (you have the option to delete) when you resize, save, modify, etc. the file. It also reads the RAW (*.CRW) files directly, so I can just drag "n drop from my CF via the CF reader to my hard drive.

And breezedownloader saves the Exif info in a .txt file with the same name as the file, which can be quite handy too...
