SD600 Help...

Hello everybody. I got this camera as a present from my Dad a few weeks ago. My sister has the SD450 and we all love the quality. My camera seems to be producing a lot of blurry shots. I do take a lot of food pictures, with no flash indoors, so I know that is causing a lot of the problems.

Also at the beginning one of my kids must have smudged the lens, my sister noticed and cleaned it off, (this was around my daughters ballet picture, if anyone checks my blog.)

I also can not zoom in nearly as close as with my sisters SD450, is this normal?

I am intending to bring this camera to disney world in October. What is my best choice, as far as storage. I have a 512M memory card now. For a week worth of pictures and video, what size card should I get.

You're right - the slow shutter speeds without flash are what's making the pictures blur. You'll notice the crawfish boil shots, outdoors, were all very nice. You might want to get a desk lamp you can use to help light the food if you don't want to use a flash with it. Alternatively, set up a tripod to hold the camera steady.

I just gave my wife one of these, and 2 x 2 GB cards, which will each hold around 700 pictures at best quality, or 17 min. video. She's not a photographer, but she filled a 2GB card on a 3 week trip to Jordan and Egypt. So I'd get at least a 2 GB card, more than one if you plan to do much video recording. Don't get anything larger than 2 GB; the camera won't take SDHC cards, which are all that reliably go over 2 GB.

As for macro, remember, you'll get closest focus, hence biggest pictures, when your lens is zoomed as wide as it'll go.

Thanks alot Jon for your reply. The 2 GB card sounds right. Are they all standard? Will any one fit my camera. If not, how do you tell.

Where is the best place to buy these cards? Amazon, Sam's, elsewhere?

Do you know if the SD450 has a closer zoom than my SD600?

SD cards should be pretty much standard. I get 2 GB SanDisk ones from Staples or Office Depot when they're on special. Avoid eBay (there's a sticky on one of the fora here) as the cards there are often counterfeit.

The SD450 and SD 600 both macro focus to 1.2" at the wide angle setting according to Canon's specs. So zoom wide, then shift to macro mode and close in on your subject.
