Looking at Kenny G's (see the man himself in the bottom pic) work, I don't think mine are quite up there yet...but would really welcome some critical feedback. Here are my efforts from the racing on Easter Monday.

Rest of the set is here:

My questions:
1. Exposure - I've looked at them on 2 different monitors, and they look ok to me. What needs to be done to the exposure?
2. JPEG quality - have I reduced it too much for showing on the web?
3. Composition - Is a tight crop acceptable, or do I need to show the surroundings to set the scene, and is it ok to just have the one car in shot, or do I need more than one to show its a race and some action?
4. Technique - which bit needs to be in focus - the front tip of the car, the racing number and sponsor details, the driver's helmet in the open cockpit cars? Does the oblique angle work? Does the vignetting work for you? I love them, others might not.

I realise some of those bits are purely people's opinions, but its exactly those opinions I need if I'm to be more successful at it. I'll post up photos of each subsequent race meeting to see if there are any improvements.

Many, many thanks

Exposures look alright to me, think you've reduced the quality a fair bit too much.

Tight crops are good, wider shots showing some racing are good and easier to get if you're the right side of the fence ie signed on as media. I assume you were?

The whole car should really be in focus, something you might struggle to achieve if you use wide apertures.

Wonky angles don't do much for me and I'm not a fan of the vignetting either.

Agree with Mr. G about exposure being ok but the quality does look to have suffered.

Tight crops are fine but, variety is the spice of life.

I tend to judge each angled shot as it comes forth and I think your ones coming out of Lodge have worked well, especially the first one which shows the run of the road. I also think the Vignetting works quite well this time.

Thanks for posting the pic of my close shave. I'm not that weighty by the way, it was the waterproof on top of the vest, then add the bib and makes you look like a mobile tent. Rumour has it that it may have been caught by the CH4 camera man, in which case it should be broadcast this Sunday.

Looks like you got around a bit judging by your site. I agree with the guys, the Deer Leap shots would have been better square-on instead of tilted, but that is a matter of preference. MSV have tilted a few of my shots when it comes to print and I do cringe a bit when I see them.

Thanks KennyG...I did indeed do an awful lot of walking that day, and got pretty wet too...great racing though.

As for square on instead of angled, how about this one...

All the best, and see you at the races ;-)
