I've been checking out the various attachments for fitting filters to the G2 and not having seen one in the flesh I just want make sure I understand how the things actually work.
They look to me like a fixed length tube with a filter or additional lens on the end, within which the zoom lens moves back and forth.
Is this correct or am I missing something?

Yes, that's it.
You remove the shiny chrome collar the G2 has around the lens and replace it with one of these tubes. The tubes are long enough so that the telescoping lens will not hit a filter mounted on the end of the tube.
You put one of these on with a good quality UV filter and your lens is safe from bumps, dust, and greasy fingers.
There are several brands with the major difference being the filter thread size. Lensmate gives you a 49mm filter thread, Canon 58mm, Tiffen 43mm. I've also heard of 52mm.
You will also need a lens cap of the appropriate size depending on which tube you get. They are all standard sizes so you should be able to pick up a lens cap at any photo store.

Greetings
I have the Tiffen tube with a 43 UV on the end for protection (both in black and look OK) and periodically use a circular polarizer on top of that without much problem.
The actual Canon lens cap fits on and stays on the 43 UV filter!
I've added the necessary step up rings to get my close up lens set to fit as well.

I also use the tiffen 43mm lens tube. I keep the UV filter on all the time. The Canon lens cap fits well over the UV filter. I do have trouble when I add filters onto the UV. It is the dreaded evil vignetting. I'm looking into buying other filters then the tiffen filters I have. I would sugest that if you go with the tiffen lens tube and a 43mm UV lens, buy a stepup ring and get bigger filters. In my opinion I would go 52mm. You have a wider choice of filters and if you stack more then one the chances of vignetting are slimed. Some may tell you that if you use larger filters the view finder will be block, but the only way to see the filter's effect is to use the LCD screen. Your flash might be affected also but that can be fixed with an external flash. (a highly suggested item to buy.)
Good luck with your G2!

Hello Paul,
Try Jessop's they sell the Raynox range
The adaptor tube is £9.99 and I recomend Hoya Filters
I have all this and the lens adaptors are on order

on the filters front you may have some for your 35mm Camera (assuming ) that you have one in that case you will want a 49 to 52 mm step ring so that you can use up the existing filters also (assuming) they are 49mm
I have not yet seen any vinetting There are also Close lens sets available I recomend the Hoya ones again I have a 4 diopter one ..

New to the Forum, and just got a G2. Which lens adapter is better? Tiffen or Lensmate? I understand that there is some blocking problem with Canon's. Also, which brand of UV and Polarize filters are more suitable for G2? Thanks.
