My beloved Calicokat passed away Wednesday April 11th. She was 17 years old. She lived a long and loving life. I have had her since I was in the 8th grade. I am very sad, but happy for the life and love she gave me all those years
She was also my model for much of my photography learnings over the years. Always a willing and available model

So sorry, but as you said, you had many years together. What more can we ask for? Hope you can get through this one.

I am so sorry to hear that. At the same time it only makes me think, my own cat just turned 17, and though he seems like a kitten at times, I know the reality.
I know words are meaningless at a time like this, but she will live on in your photography and in your thoughts.

Jim, so sorry to hear of the passing of your cat. I was quite shocked to see this thread.
Treasure the photos. Equipment, especially premium equipment comes at a very heavy price, but all it takes are a few priceless photos to make it all worthwhile.
A wise photog once said to me, buy the best damn equipment you can, and use it the best way that you can. For in many things in life you only get ONE shot - you may as well make it the very best that you can.

Shame ... I have two cats, brother and sister, since they were 6 weeks old and we have been buddies since the very first day. Cats are Zen Masters and can teach us much and so their influence lives not just through photo's but through how we ourselves are ... in my experience anyway. Few people can love with the non-attachment of a Cat and few can walk a narrow ledge 20ft high without an apparent care ... but we can at least aspire to those things in life.

Thank you for the kind words. I agree that cats are special, I love the line from Meet the Parents by Robert De Niro, I am not exactly sure off the top of my head, but does anyone know how it goes

Sorry about your Calicokat. I have an older cat now (she's 15) and her health isn't what it should be, but she's still got awhile to stay with us longer, plus all the rest of my animals still play with her. I did have a cat, Mr. Bilbo Baggins, that reached the ripe old age of 21.

Calico, Both my wife and I send our condolences and a prayer that your loss will be more bearable as time goes by, it is an awesome thing to have a relationship with an animal at the level that you and your kittie did, and I am sure that sometime soon some little curtain climer is gonna steal your hearts again, I am feeling your loss as we have lost before too! Take care my friend. Dale and Deborah.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful cat. At the end of this month, it will be two years since our cat passed away. She was 19 years old and we had her since she was a kitten. We all miss her, but can enjoy many thoughts of her funny antics and heartwarming affection. Sometimes I still think I see her out of the corner of my eye, waiting for a scrap of some yummy treat being prepared in the kitchen or curled up asleep on the sofa.
Your cat will always be there in your thoughts. I feel very fortunate to have had the years I did with mine. Yes, we have other animals, cats included. But each one is their own individual and is missed when they are not with us anymore. My heart goes out to you, but you have the happy memories and lots of photos that will eventually make you feel better.

My sincerest condolences to you on your loss. I've had my cat now for 8 years and can't imagine the idea of losing him.

Just saw this today....very sorry for your loss. My Tigger is getting up in age so I really understand how you must feel.
Every time I see one of your posts with Clalicokat in the avitar, I for some reason think of Groucho Marx due to her little mustache like face!
Regards,
Tom

So hard to find words that wouldn't sound trite or just piling on to other's thoughts. . .
Maybe an image instead?

That is so sad.... :( I once had a cat that lived for 23 years... I thought I was ready for her to be gone, but when she finally left us, I missed her. They are so sweet when they climb up onto the bed in the middle of the night and put their little nose right in your face and start purring....
I'm sure you kitty will be missed and you'll have sweet memories of her... On the flip side though... a new kitten would be lots of fun to play with. :)

the loss of a pet effects a bigger part of our lives then we first know. I looked around for "Misha" for months after she died. I still miss getting met at the door after work, even though my Boxer does this, somehow it's not quite the same...
I'm sorry for your loss.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. It's always sad when a companion, who has been with us for a long time, has to leave.
For now she will live on in your user name and your avatar...

I too am sorry to hear of your loss. My cats are everything to me, and I know that in her heart, Calicokat knows exactly how much you love her, and always will.
Where she is now, is cat-heaven; a place of forever having a warm spot to lay including warm sunlight to roll in, whatever food their little hearts desire and a plethora of furniture that it's okay to put ones claws into.

It hurts when they have used all nine lives and there is none left.
But rest assured my friend, that Calicokat is probably taking some really nice photos right now, because I am sure everyone uses Canon in Kitty heaven. (and other heavens, no time to list them all).
Kind regards,

Canon’s roots lie in Kwanon
Kwanon, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, was chosen as the
name for the first Japanese 35mm focal plane shutter camera.
Here is the story of how the Kwanon came to be developed
and how it got its name.

sorry to hear about your loss one of my four is 14 this year, im hoping he is with us a little while longer because he is finally becoming an effectionate cat and i wld miss the bugger, even typing this kills me :(
wow her markings are so different, out of interest was she sick? i know mine has had his issues over the years and certainly didnt start life with me in the best circumstances (i found him after being hit by a car and stopped to move him thinking he was already dead so cars wouldnt run over him, 14yrs later and he is sitting in front of me as i type this)

Thank you for the kind words, they are very much appreciated. She died suddenly, the only signs were she had gotten thinner over the past year, but the morning of her passing, she was fine. I guess it can come quickly at her age.
