View Full Version : A milestone (not to be confused with a kidney stone)

This post is my 2,000th. What makes this really remarkable is that in the course of all this writing, I've said almost nothing worth repeating...

...but I've sure had fun.

The biggest difference between this milestone and a kidney stone is:

Kidney stones aren't nearly as painful as some of my stupid humor. Thanks to everyone for keeping me around this long.

(BTW, I know this doesn't belong on this board. It should be in General Chat, but because this is where I've done most of my damage, I thought I'd stick it here.)

Tom, let me take this opportunity to thank you for all 2,000 posts. I've read many of them and enjoyed them all......I know we all feel weird since we don't know each other but may I say that I have grown very fond of you and others here.....group hug time.

If I may ask a personal question, are you retired, and if so, from what?

Also, this is a fluff post......my 97th.......trying to hit 100 today!

How about three ways to do 17mm? (it's a sickness, you know.)

There used to be (may still be) a product known as 2,000 Flushes if I remember correctly. Any correlation :?: :) :D

Seriously, you add a lot to this forum, both insight and humor. Keep it up!

Tom, I can guess two of them ... the 17-40 L and the 12-24 with the 1.4 TC

What's the third?

Best regards,
Andy

I think the 1.4x might be a little superfluous since 17 does fall between 12 and 24.

However, if you must insist on using the 1.4, then that's 4 ways for Tom. :D

I disagree. I have learnt loads from this forum and from your input to various threads. In addition, you have cracked me up on many occasions!

Congratulations. I look forward to future postings! :D

I learn about the art of wit, by reading your posts... and watching Conan O'Brien. Good stuff. Ooohh, I should do a "what if they mated" pic of you and Conan in PS :D

I would just say congrats, and what a fine chap you are... but my sig says it all, oh great one

Thanks, gang. You're very kind. This is my favorite place to hang out. As long as I keep my bar tab paid, it looks like I have a home.

Coming later this summer:
Six ways to shoot 400mm---sort of.

(70-200 f/4.0, 2X TC
70-200 f/2.8L IS, 2X TC
400 f/5.6L
100-400L

plus

2nd 100-400L
300 f/4, 1.4X TC (I know, this is not exactly 400mm)

Someone shoot me!

You're absolutely right, but... 17 divides so nicely by 1.4 to something near 12.5
Plus, I got the impression that Tom is really fond of his 1.4x

Best regards,

Andy

PS: Tom ... you got the 20-35 as well?

... on your new 1DMkII, that would be exactly the same as 17 mm on the 10D

Wow. I'm getting a headache trying to keep all this arithmetic sorted out in my pea-sized, atrophied little brain. :?

I've finally gotten a pretty good handle on the 1.6X crop factor with my 10D, and I can make most of those calculations in my head. Now I'm going to have to start all over with 1.3X on the Mk II. Of course I could solve the whole problem buy just getting a 1Ds, but then I'd have a new situation to deal with.....poverty.

Then it would be, "One way to shoot 50mm --at f/1.8." At least with the full-frame sensor, it would be an honest 50mm and not 65 or 80mm EFV.
