I have a Canon Powershot A540 (actually, I have three - bought them for running photography workshops) which I bought just two months ago, and it has developed a problem - the shutters that cover the lens when it's switched off are jammed. When I switch it off, they close, but not completely - there is a gap of around 1mm at one end, plenty big enough for all sorts of nasties to get in.

When I then switch the camera on, the cover often does not open fully, but remans jammed halfway. If I poke it, it will then open.

Has anyone else had similar problems? And is there anything I can do about it myself, or should I just return the camera (bit of a hassle, as I bought them online).

not the a540, but my wife's a520 had the same problem. we got it from bestbuy. ita was still under warranty so when we brought it in the fixed it for free. something was wrong with the motor. its been more than a year now and the camera works fine.
