I have a Canon Powershot A540 (actually, I have three - bought them for running photography workshops) which I bought just two months ago, and it has developed a problem - the shutters that cover the lens when it's switched off are jammed. When I switch it off, they close, but not completely - there is a gap of around 1mm at one end, plenty big enough for all sorts of nasties to get in.
When I then switch the camera on, the cover often does not open fully, but remans jammed halfway. If I poke it, it will then open.
Has anyone else had similar problems? And is there anything I can do about it myself, or should I just return the camera (bit of a hassle, as I bought them online).
