Hi,
Tomorrow I'm going to a store to get a new memory card and camera bag for my 300D. The store has a package deal which includes the Sandisk CF 256MB Ultra II card, Tamract Topload bag and UV filter for about $124.
I just saw that another store sells the regular Sandisk CF 256MB card quite cheap, and another store will have camera bags on sale soon. Also the store I'm going to have good prices for that stuff in general.
Should I get the package deal, or should I buy the stuff separately in different stores? I'm not sure I really need the UV filter, and neither do I know if there is a point in having the Ultra II card instead of a regular CF card.
If I just pick and match from various stores I'll get away cheaper. What should I do?

I don't know about the pricing there.
But about UV, it will give extra protection to the front-end of your lens, and it will not affect the quality (no light loss). Some UV also will make picture warmer (avoiding cooling effect)
The CF Ultra II is more faster than the ordinary CF. But unfortunately, drebel can't utilize it's full speed potential. But it will help if you stick the CF Ultra II into an USB card reader while you transfering the pic into the computer, since it will use it's full speed, meaning shorter time of transfer.

I always use UV filter on my lenses. As Loekito said, it's an extra protection for the front element of the lens. Personally, I prefer a really transparent filter. To test this easily : put the filter on a white sheet of paper and look for a difference in coloration between the normal sheet and the part under the filter.
Hope that helps,

Go for the deal. I put a uv on my lens the day my camera was purchased.

Just spend a little extra and get a good quality UV filter.. There IS a discernable optical difference between cheapo and good (like Hoya).

I believe the UV filter will be a Hoya 58mm HMC.
Heck, I'll probably go for the deal just for the hell of it.

UV filters are a must if your rough with your cameras. I mainly use it for protection, better to scratch the $10-12 piece of glass than a $100+ piece of glass...

I just paid $20 for an HMC 58mm UV filter, to put on my 50mm f1.4 lens (I put a somewhat less expensive -- $16 -- Canon UV filter on my kit lens). I saw a site recently that tested the hig quality filters (SMC -- even more expensive) & found substantially less flare than with cheaper filters, but they didn't test the HMC. HMC seemed to me a good quality filter without getting into outrageous price ranges.
On the Ultra II, I just bought one from Costco onlijne for $110, but then saw a couple of days later that Amazon has them with a rebate that gets it down to about $84 (search this forum for the deal, which expires next week, I think).
I hope this helps your pricing comparisons.
