Since 2000 when I decided to manipulate my own digital images for printing (from 35mm film), I've been needing a solid resource that does the subject justice. I think maybe I've found it in The 123 of Digital Imaging 2.0 by Vincent Bockaert, an interactive e-book. It was recommended to me by someone with buckets of digital experience.
Apart from suffering from the widespread Photoshopitis (tongue-in-cheek dig by l-o-n-gtime PHOTO-SHOP user!), I doubt if there's a more useful digital resource.

The site also has a very useful downloadable demo if you want to properly assess the content.
