I just like to hear your opinion on upgrading from Canon G6 to Rebel XT. My friend likes to buy my 1 year and 5 months G6 for 350 bucks. I bought it for 550 bucks. I’m kind a hesitant because it’s my first camera. But I like to buy a new camera – a camera where I can use different lenses. I was thinking… It’s just too much for me to have 2 cameras since I only do it as a hobby. I’m also thinking too… if I will not sell it to my friend, it might be hard for me to sell my camera in the future when I like to buy a new camera – price wise. Anybody reading this experienced this kind of dilemma? Technology keeps on changing and keeping my camera just because it’s my “first camera” is just not practical – or is it? What you guys think?

I was very sad to see my G6 go - it is a fantastic camera, but so is the 350D, which I bought as a replacement - the advantages of speed, larger sensor and interchangeable lenses really made the selling of my G6 easier to bear. That being said I just picked up a cheap G3 on eBay because I miss the POTN speed challenges :-)
Good luck with your decision...
Paul.

The G6 is a great Point & Shoot... but it's not a DSLR (and vice versa). I have both a G6 and XTI. The G6 is for when I don't want the hassles of a DSLR and all of its accessories (Like vacations and flying). I bought the XTI with a Sigma 18-200 to be a carry around camera (when I wanted to leave the backpack with lenses home). Sold my 10D thinking I would buy a 30D but I like the XTI so much I'm sitting tight (until maybe a 40D?) . XTI is a great little camera but the G6 is easier to carry and I take it when there might be a chance to ruin my DSLRS (on water, beaches, etc).
As for DSLRs, there are fast and versatile. But it gets expensive feeding them lenses and other accessories.
Not to cut your friend out, but used G6s in excellent or mint condition have almost attained collector's status (probably due to the G7 not having RAW capability). On eBay they are selling for around $500.00 and there aren't many there!

I was going to say the same I was just shopping for a camera and toyed with the idea of getting the G6 as it's spoken of with such reverence, and found that you can get a G7 for much less than you could dream of getting a G6 for...thats if you can find one. You should make an easy 500.00 off of it. That little camera really retained it's value because of the unpopular changes made to the G7.
It's considered by many to be the last of the "great" G series.
