View Full Version : My unborn child

I ask the POTN community to keep my family in their prayers. My wife is pregnant with our first child. When we went in for the 4th ultra-sound, the technician said she say a dark spot in the mouth. The doctor couldn't confirm anything because the baby would not cooperate and open it's mouth (no surprise to me because it stops kicking every time I put my hand on my wifes stomach!!)
The doctor asked us to come back on May 3rd for another ultra-sound. He said it could just be a shadow or it could be a cleft palate. A cleft palate is an opening in the roof of the mouth where it never formed properly.
Please keep us in your prayers.

I don't know exactly how you feel, but I am in the ballpark at least....our first (a boy :) ) is due june 19th....
it's a wild ride with blood pressures going through the roof that's for sure.
got my fingers crossed for ya, when is she due? ultrasounds are funky images man, shadows and static and the kid is never in the 'ideal' position that's for sure lol.
he always stops kicking for me too, i've seen it plenty but only felt it like 3 or 4 times :) it's cool though, isn't it? :D
keep us posted, it'll be allllllll goooood :D

My friends recently had a baby with a cleft lip and pallet. Obviously it's a very distressing time especially at the beginning, but it really is amazing what can be done with surgery nowadays. 18 months on and you would hardly know that there was anything wrong!
Our prayers are with you too.
Best regards
Jim

Never underestimate the power of prayer, I've seen bad situations turned round plenty of times to know that it is effective and works.
I'll be praying for you, your wife and child.
Kind regards, Davy

I have been doing some research about cleft palates and cleft lips. It is amazing what reconstructive surgery can do. Thank you all for the kind words. I will keep everyone posted.

In this day and age they can repair these things without even any scarring and such. depending on lip or palate cleft.
Doing research will help you alot to understand everything. Nothing worse than feeling a little in the dark.
I bet there are support groups over the net with parents in the same position.
I bet talking to people who can offer advice on the basis that they have been through the same complications would make you and your wife feel at ease a little more.

Everything will be just fine.
If the worst they are worried about is a cleft - why those things can be fixed right up, as soon as the baby is big enough to take the surgery, and afterwards they look just like everyone else.
I know it's a worry just now, but I'm sure the repeat scan will be good.
