A few pics from a couple of weekends ago.... This was at a cross country schooling clinic my girlfriend took her horse to, he has mainly show jumped in the past so cross country is all very new, and scary for him.... he did pretty good though, let me know what you think.....

I also posted some shots of his 1st [very wet!] cross country outing a little while back too, their right here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=275537 if anyone cares to see..... It's amazing how different he looks in this post compared to the last! namely because his summer coat has come through and that gorgeous sunshine making him glow........

Very sharp images. Which lens were you using? 85mm f/1.8?

Thanks.... Yes, they were with the 85 f1.8....

Hopefully i will have the 70-200 2.8 IS added to my bag by mid summer for outdoor stuff like this, i could definately use the flexibilty of it........ there were lots of missed opportunities where both the long end and the slightly shorter [70mm vs 85mm i was using] end of the 70-200 would have been very helpful.........

Really nice Steve. I like number 2 - cute moment. What a lovely rider your GF is.

Thanks lightchaser, yeah i like #2 too - he's a big softie at heart! My gf will appreciate the complement, believe me she had to sit real tight! he's a bit of a baby really and he did have a few stops that could easily have had her off [great photo opportunity i know!!] but she sat them really well....... He'll be doing another clinic like this in May so we'll see how he progresses.....

Very nice series. The only thing that concerns me is that # 4 needs to be plumbed. It's a good idea to stop that lens down just a tad (as you did) to avoid CA that lens is famous for when used wide open in bright conditions.

Regards,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff, can you just fill me in on what you mean by 'plumbed'??? not heard the term, but i guess your reffering to the CA on the stirrup and the bit in some way, but i'm not sure as to what you mean by plumbed???

Do you think the CA would of dissapeared completely if i stopped down a little further to 2.8???

Cheers

Steve

Very sharp images.

The guy in the pale blue shirt in several of the shots reminds me of Wilson on Home Improvement.

good colours & pin sharp #4 is the best by far of these imho a clean sharp image with not to many distactions #3 could have been a lot better if you had got low down & maybe a tad closer you might have been able to minimize the bg distractions then. as for an earlier comment about stopping down the lens more stopping down is a little bit of a contradiction as it means uping the fstop to a higher number rather than a lower one a mistake people newer to photography often make i hope this helps a little.

Steve.

Thanks for the pointers Steve, will keep in mind to get lower next time. i understand what 'stopping down' is, but what i couldn't [and still can't] work out from Jeff's [Big_Hands] post is his comment that #4 needed to be 'plumbed' anybody care to explain that one for me??

Thanks you everybody for the comments and little tips, i'll try to keep them all in mind next time.... i appreciate all the help from the amazingly talented people on here, hopefully one day i'll be at least half as good of some of you!!! :D one day........
