View Full Version : Ducks and "L" lens - a coincidence?

Ok, you all talked me into an "L" lens a week or so ago (70-200mm f/4L). Finally got to take a few photos in the back yard with it today.

As if by magic, a duck wandered through the yard! I swear from reading these forums that ducks are attracted to the "L" lenses...

:)

(a bit overcast, so had to use ISO 200...)

ROFL

It's all IanD's fault, I swear. He must be telling the ducks and geese about the L magic....

I'm a week or two away from my 100-400 "L", so this is what my ducks have been looking like. I hope the "L" lens will straighten this out

In Michigan, they're "Mall Gulls," as they tend to hang around mostly in the parking lots of malls...

If you look back at my 300 MM duck, its actually shot with a 75-300 III non IS. Pertty good for a cheapie lens, No?

Yes, it is. I really like the water drops off of the duck, and you can really make out the downy feathers on the lower lateral aspect. Great shot. Did you use a tripod?

Its not the lens, its the color of the lens that the ducks go for. Don't you know that by now. You don't see too many ducks hanging out around Nikon forums, do you? :P

Boy, am I dumb. All along I thought that the "D" in 10D and 300D stood for digital.

ROFL - Too late the thread is awake already. Since I don't have a L lens, I don't have to post a duck shot yet :-)

That's weird, the same thing happened to me when I got my 70-200mm f4L IS. A mating pair of Mallards was wandering around my front yard.

I shot this duck recently using the 70-200mm and the Tamron 2X TC so the shot is actually @400mm. The duck is pretty far away. As you can see you can still get great results and it is a non reporting TC meaning you can retain AF depending on your camera body.
