Got The Cover!

I was just notified today that the upcoming issue of HeartlandUSA magazine will bear one of my photos for the cover, with the lead story being "40-seconds of Fury" featuring the jet sprint boats I shot last year, and will be shooting again this year. The feature will also display four other photos of mine that they had notified me a few weeks ago they'd be using.

I thought I had missed the cover and was wondering what else they'd use. And yeah sure, I'm bragging, but I also write this as a testimonial that if you hang in there it too can happen to you.

What an awesome day! I get this call and then get a chance to shoot the ChampCars for about an hour today.

Okay Canon...I am ready for my MKII now. Go ahead and ship it next week okay? I'll need a bit of practice before my next assignment.

Thanks. I have to update my JetSprint galleries. I slammed the quality to protect against theft, but now I have a cool watermark so I'll kick the quality backup and watermark them...

Now I am getting jazzed for another season of shooting!!

Thank you all so very much. I have waited so long for this. I hope it keeps coming! They did ask if I shot anything else too. I told them I am a photographer (period). I am not a Sports Photographer, I am a photographer and will shoot anything I deem worth shooting no matter what it is. Right now my thing is motorsports, but it could be anything if offered the right assignment, so hopefully this will be a door opening and not just a fleeting moment. But, even if it is, that's fine too. I love shooting and if I get print and/or cash, that's a just a bonus for doing what I love best.

I see someone else may have sold some photos here too. I gotta go read that thread now and offer my congrats.

I don't know why you are humbled now, I told you that long ago. I studied your photos over and over again. One day you posted some shots that moved me and I said, I am going to get that camera no matter what others say. There were so many that tried to discourage me but thank God I didn't listen to them. I just looked at your photos and I knew that the 10D was the camera for me. Now, I am right there with you, have my 1DMK ll on pre-order at B&H. I have been published 3 times now so I know how you feel. I got the cover of the Entertainment section of a local newspaper but somehow it is not the same. But, I have time...

I am just so happy for you. It is a great feeling to see someone have something wonderful happen to them that truly deserves it.

Keep up the good work. Hard work and love for photography will always pay off, one way or another.

The WSJ yes. I have not been down-under to see them, but they would come to Idaho for three weekends the last couple of years to race over here with the USSBA guys and I did photograph the WSJ boats in 2003. I think most of the photos they selected for magazine are from the WSJ event.

NILOLIGIST: Well, it's just kinda weird (not creepy weird) having someone follow in your footsteps like that. It's neat and all, but when you're not used to it, it's just weird—for lack of better words.

Funny thing is you got published before I did! :) But, I'm not that aggressive when it come to pushing my own stuff. Yeah I know. Now that seems weird eh? :lol:

But, now I can forge ahead. start my business, get the website running strong and then who know what may happen...

I guess the word I should have chosen is overwhelming (as I stated in the email). This has all come upon me like a whirlwind and along with the magazine deal and having this much influence on at least two people it's just a bit overwhelming that my photography could have that much effect on someone. No need for you to apologize at all. Your and Timmy's comments on my influence are the greatest compliments that could ever be paid to someone.

It's Heartland USA magazine. I cannot post the picture, but I will scan the cover when I get the magazine. At this point I don't even know which photos they chose. Just that they chose four photos for the article and one for the cover.
