I've typed up a thread that I may be switching from S50 to 300D. I'm wondering if there is a compensation for not having a 2nd curtain in 300D? I'm a night photographer who walks around the city when people's asleep. Taking cars in motion and so on...and i found that 2nd curtain is useful.
Also, there's no difference between Australian EOS 300D and U.S 300D, right? I read nothing in Aussie sites that called EOS a 'Rebel'. Here the camera costs $1800.
Another, do I really need SanDisk Ultra II CompactFlash?
Finally, a question concerning lenses. Most of my shots are wide-view when taking shots at night. I noticed that 300D'z zoom is not as powerful as S50 - which is a bit of a surprise. So i need lenses with wide angle and can go X8 at least. I'm willing to spend $600~ for lens.

The Australian EOS300D = US EOS Digital Rebel. Just a different name due to warranty provided...
$600 for a "good" 8x lens is somewhat difficult.

I recently bought a DRebel, and have been researching the heck out of it. I had the same question about Compact Flash cards.
Basically, I decided that I only wanted to buy cards that were as fast or faster than the camera could write, and were of a reputable brand (i.e., not a ton of complaints about them online).
The fantastic thing is that there's a database on the web with the write times for these cards for specific cameras. Take a look at:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007
There's tons of good info there, and he has a page listing all the cards and their write speeds for the DRebel. I'm basically sticking with cards that are in the database and are writing at 1100K/sec or better.
Hope that helps!

I read all the stuff online & couldn't decide either, so I got the 512 Ultra II with the cam & then picked up a 'standard' 512 when I found a deal for $89 after rebates. Now they're advertizing a new version ('Extreme', I think) so I'll probably get one of those after the initial price drops. That should put enough "film in my freezer" for awhile.
:)
Here the camera costs $1800.
Geeeez! I hope that's a typo?

Nup. Camera costs $1800. One thousand and eight hundred dollars. Made in Japan.
The question I really liked to be answered is if I really need slow sync flash (1st curtain & 2nd curtain). I'm a night photographer and 2nd curtain came really useful for taking fireworks and skyline. Any help?

(Sorry, I can't help with the 2nd curtain question). But I wonder, are gifts mailed to Australia exempt from import duty? If you know someone who lives elsewhere that you trust, why not consider having them get the cam, rewrap it, & ship it to you?

My father goes to oversaeas for a buisness trip and i may ask him to get the camera overseas duty-free. Quite frankly, it's not worth it at the end. User guide's language, and charger.
I guess I have to make a new thread 2nd curtain.

If the camera can't do it, then you are out of luck.
That is the sort of thing that can't be produced just from the flash unit.
Fireworks or moving vehicles, I can understand.

S50 worked well until i increased ISO - alot of visable noise. S50 can do 2nd curtain as I said - did the job.
Here are some photos.

Should i just stick with S50 when using 2nd curtain and use ESO for daylight?
