Cool, I think I just "sold" my first pictures :)

This danish Commodore 64 revival-band, "Press play on tape" (which I'm a big fan of), did a concert at a computer-party I'm involved with. They announced on their webpage that they would like pictures taken during the concert. So I mailed them and said they could get all my pictures of the concert if they would ship a signed CD to me, so they did :)

At least I'm uploading 600MB+ of pictures to them now, and they have already started "web'ing" some of them. Even cared to give me a byline :)

Hm, $25 for the cd (yes norway is expensive), plus an added $10 since it's signed... COOL! I only need to do about 98.6 more concerts before my 10D + lenses have paid for itself ;)

What sort of setup did you need for that type of lighting (lens, camera settings, etc)?

I love shooting concerts, and staged events.
That is why I have the trusty 50mm and 85mm primes.

My setting was quite simple. Lightning was whatever the stage-crew was giving. And most of the time that was not much to be honest ;)

For the equipment. First of all I must say I was extremley lucky, as I was the only still-photographer allowed inside the security-fence. So I could literally climb onto the stage if I wanted to. But there where also to professional-looking video-cameras there with two guys on each, so I tried to play it nice and keep out of their way, since I didn't want to get broadcasted to wherever they where broadcasting, as that clueless newbie wondering about whether to use night or portrait program of the 10D (Ok, that _WAS_ a joke ;)) But at as said, I was extremely lucky with location (real close), so I used my 50mm f/1.4, changing between Av (locked at 1.4) or Tv (locked at 90), on ISO-200 - ISO-800, and some occastional ISO-1600 just to play it safe. I used the "closest to spot" metering (without recalling the name for that) the 10D has to offer. It worked out quite nice I think, it was only my second concert ever, and the first beeing the night before, so I'm satisfied. Think I'll want the 35mm f/2.0 soon, cause I was so close that 50mm was to narrow most of the time :/

My suggestion would be to pick out only the best stuff, probably no more than 20% of the total, and send that. They might be more impressed.

Yes,. they are quite good as far as Danish Commodore 64 revival-bands go,. but I still prefer the "See em dee - Dee colon one" for there deep basic programming sound....

Good point, Bob. The readers of my website get kinda cranky when I produce a multi-hundred photo gallery. It's just too much to look at. From a customer standpoint it's just too much to try and decide on. Pick the best and go with that.

They asked for _all_ of them. So what I did was to delete all pictures I didn't like at all, and only kept what I thought was "good" to great. That gave me back 600MB of 1000MB. Quite satisfied with that ratio though :) Out of those 600MB, around 70 was shots I personally think was great, while the rest at least was good enough that I keep them around my HD instead of deleting it. I think they wanted all of them for personal reasons. They will probably only put up a selected few on their webpage.
