O-o, I'm in deep sorrow :( My G1 died

Yes, it have happened today(19 May) after 5 months of using (received on 19 December). It died without any explanations.

Any advices ? I'm drinking :(

The power suddenly shut down, but lense stuck in opened position.
And after this I couldn't bring the camera to the life.

I'll send to Canon Service next week. There is no bad without good. I'm looking at D30 again.

By the way, what does USM on lenses mean ?

USM means "Ultrasonic Motor". Basically it means quiet and fast focusing motor which lets you focus manually at any time.

Well......your sorrow is quite understandable but it seems very unusual for such a quality product....have you tried fully charging the battery and switching on or connecting direct to the power supply? Sometimes, a full capacity surge 'unlocks' the modern gadgets!

I had a fully charged battery, I tried to connect directly to power supply. Didn't work. I think, the camera has to be replaced. Looks like something wrong with servo-motor.

Hi andrei

it happens to me the same problem last month. The lens don't close when i turn the switch on OFF.
I send it to Canon Service (Italy) and it return to me 15 days later.
Now, it work good. Canon says they have changed the PCB card and update the firmware.
Someone know what is the PCB card

PCB card is the card which holds the components, chips, transistors and resistors (like a motherboard/mainboard in a computer).

Andrei, I'm not quite sure if I have experienced exactly the same, but when my G1 got "stuck" removing and replacing the battery helped. I'd call it "booting" the camera :)
