I have a design for a copyright symbol that I put in the lower right hand corner of my proofs. Do any or all of you put some sort of copyright symbol on your final wedding prints or any print for that matter? I'm getting ready to print some reprints and would like to hear how others approach this. I'm sure you all do it on proofs, but what about the final print?

On a final print in an album, I don't think that a copyright symbol on the face would go over that well. A great huge 20x30 for the wall with a small logo and a copyright symbol would be OK, but not on every 8x10 in the B&G's album. I would put a copyright symbol on the back of those prints. But on the front, I could have my studio's name (without the copyright symbol and year) and it would be a branding of sorts. Hey I'd pay $7.00 for the ball cap alone and $30 if it had Canon on it!

But a copyright stamp is like a locked door. It'll keep the honest people out. The truly committed will trash any type of copyright indication you'd care to use on your image. I wouldn't worry about it too much and I wouldn't want to punish my good clients either.

But be very careful about the size of your logo. Mad Magazine, a truly profound publication, once pointed out that the worse the artist, the larger the signiture!

Dave,

I agree about the albums, that would be quite tacky. But what about individual reprints that other family members order?

Thanks,
