This is one I snapped of my Dad during sap season this year. I've been playing with my camera a lot lately. I really like the photo.
Anyone have any comments on it? Always looking for someone elses thoughts on my work!!

Hmm...I think it's engaging, to think about what your dad is thinking about. Technically, though, there's too harsh a shadow behind him caused by flash. I supposed you used a pop-up, which caused the shadow...so, maybe put a piece of tissue paper or something in front of it, to soften it.
Then, take a picture of his expression...i.e. mugshot. I think that would work much better. Hope that helps a little.
Oh, by the way, here's one of my dad. Click here. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=300413)

It's a good capture of the moment. But it looks like a snapshot rather than a portrait. I guess it depends on what your goal was.

I thought I was the only one who did that!
Actually though, you really need a lot of tissues, flash is so bright it goes right through the paper, and unless you're careful, you can still get those shadows!
I'd try open a window, turn on a light, bring in a lamp, have a fast exposure and only then I'd flash.

Thank you for your comments everyone!!
I'm gonna try the tissue thing. I'll be getting some when I go to town this week. And yes, it is a pop up flash, I'm hoping to get a new flash this summer.
I really wasn't trying for a portrait, just something a little different.

I myself prefer dark b&w, this seems like quite a bright one. Possibly darken it up slightly or change the levels for a different effect. Depends what you prefer really. What is your dad actually doing?

Not a very exiting shot, I think, Inthedeck sugestion of a mug shot and Wasu sugestion of natural light would work wonders, give it a try.
