View Full Version : G7 Hot shoe problem - solution sought.

I'm attempting to use a G7 in a very portable VR rig.

Inserting anything into the hot shoe (Canon G7) causes the camera to switch to flash mode. On the G7 this causes a significant shutter delay, even if what was inserted is an inert bubble level.

At the same time, the LCD becomes non-responsive to exposure changes - you can not judge the exposure by the LCD!

There is a switch under the left hot shoe rail. Disabling the switch is NOT something to do in the field, and means a flash can no longer be used in the hot shoe until the switch is re-enabled.

Any suggestions??

Thanks
Ed

Use the bubble level some other way?

Make a cut in the rail of the bubble level corresonding to the position of the microswitch?

Thanks for the reply Nigel, I guess I see 4 options:

- Cutting the level rail as you suggest, (though that leaves just over 1/16th inch holding on the left side of the hot shoe.)

- Disassembling the hot shoe switch, (rendering the hot shoe inoperative),

- Mount bubble level off camera but on tripod, (which is not as accurate,)

- Buy a Nikon P5000 for when I need to use this setup, for according to reports, it has no flash-mode shutter delay, (This somewhat defeats the single simple travelling compact camera rig, though still it is not as large or heavy as a dslr setup.)

Regards,
Ed
