yep nice indeed. I am having such a hard time on my long lens. i sold my 300 2.8 because it was just to short. I can not decide between the 400 2.8, 500 or 600 for bike races and other racing......

Great shots though!

Steve if you can afford it(by looking at your line up, you can ;) ).I would go for the 400.Cuz you can allways add the 1.4TC for some more lengh(or even the 2.0TC, depending on what cam you have).

The 500 is abit to long in places around the track.Hence me using the 100-400 in places.

Very nice Alan, the chicane is particularly good for getting good "racing line" shots... remember our posts last time ;)

The pans of Cal and Greg are very nice, quite a low down angle and with your big lens it really brings the bike out nicely from the background. Guess they were taken in the middle of the complex?

I gave it a miss this year, knew it was going to be hectic, even on the QLF day. Looked amazingly busy from what I briefly saw on TV :)

Hi Azza

Yeah the amount of peeps there was crazy(Biker's mostly).

I was glad i had the 500 with me, and glad i am tall.As i had to shoot over heads most of the time, and having the 500 gave me the lengh :D .

I did put the 100-400 on to get the chicane in tho(see pic) ;)

Oh and there's another shot of one of the media chaps. The shot caught my eye(thought it looked cool).

nice photos, I like the fact that you don't oversharpen already sharp pics.

I have a similar setup with the 100-400 and 400 2.8 and teleconverters. I really like the combination.

Still getting use to the 400 though, any tips for panning on the monopod with a supertelephoto I found it very akward for the first time out.

any tips for panning on the monopod with a supertelephoto I found it very akward for the first time out.

I find panning with a mono-pod alot easyer than doing it free hand.

Regards free hand there is to much up and down movement in the arms, where on a mono-pod there is only side to side.Which is what you want.

Because my 500 is sooooo big i find it alot eay'er to do pan shots.Because my left arm is extended having my hand on the lens hood. And i just swivel with my body.Which is very stable, hence ending up with sharp'er images.

I must admit i have'nt tried panning with a mono-pod using the 100-400, thats all ways done free hand(i'll try that one next time im out).

Quite easy, there were only three (if memory serves) working media at the complex for race two. One guy from Double Red, the other was from BSN and yours truly. Oh yeah I also have the rear view of Greg, Shakey and Kiyo!
