Just been out for a drive, never had camara with me:cry: , in the countryside, and on the way back I was at some lights looked over and there was a beautiful sunset with trees in the forground.

So it may not have been the perfect photo, but it would of been nice to capture, anyone else been in a similar situation.

Millions of times. Which is why I never leave home without my crumpler bag with all my stuff in it. Does the stuff ever come out of the bag? Not likely. But I know when I leave it home one day, thats when its gonna happen.

I carry my Nikon 8700 in the car just for these types of events. It’s small, easily fitting into the center console, and the pic quality is every bit as good as the Canon as long as I keep the camera in it’s sweet spot.

I wish I had a camera this day: This is a funny story:D
I had a mice problem in my apartment. My wife and I don't like to kill them (I know, you people must think I'm crazy), so we have a humane trap. We caught a fat one one night, and we went to the park to let it go into the woods. After we got there, I took the trap out of a plastic bag and opened it to let the mouse go. He jumped out of the trap and started running to the nearest trees. Within 3 seconds a Red tail Hawk came flying down, chased the mouse, caught it and ate it right before our eyes.
Now, I am the kind of guy who takes my camera to the bathroom with me just to take a big dump. But for some reason, I did not have my camera with me that day:mad:
I told you it was a funny story.
Moral of the story: Always have your camera with you. You never know what might happen:D

Yep, we all have these stories, but it's important to learn from this one story and not do it again. For this reason I'm re-assesing my camera bodies and I bought a XTi so whenever I say "the 1 is too heavy/big/whatever" I have something small and light that still takes good pictures (I tried a P&S but wasn't happy with it) that I will take with me.

Just don't let it happen again.

This is the most absolutely grossest thing I've ever read on POTN. But hilarious! hahaha

I'm the same way, I always took my camera with me, recently I haven't. So I'm sitting my car with my radio on listening to the fire band and the road on the intersection I was sitting on had a report of smoke coming out of one of the industrial buildings. I could have made a right and been there to capture all the equipment coming into the area.

People think I'm mad taking my gear everywhere. Still I've managed to get at least 6 really great shots that would have been lost otherwise.

Just recently I have had the following:

Blue Heron in a small pond
3 deer grazing in my parents neighborhood, two seperate occasions
A Red-Tailed Hawk resting in a tree near a creek, about 12 feet off of the ground

I had a similar situation just last week, but it wasn't because I didn't have my camera, it was because I had what I call my "long setup" in my hand 20D+70/200+1.4tc. We where sitting in my Aunt's yard on the Fox river in Green Bay, when a group of Pelicans flew directly over us, maybe 30 feet away. With the long setup, there was no way for me to get all 6 large pelicans and they where moving a lot faster than I anticipated. One second they where in the distance, then they were right on top of me. The only in focus shot I got was several seconds after they had passed. Maybe I'm deluding myself, but I felt that if I had my 5D and 24-105, I probably would have gotten better shots. The 5D was in my camera bag at my feet...live and learn.

Just recently I have had the following:...
I have dozens of shots a day go by because I am not prepared. My best missed shots include the following from just yesterdayHawk grabbed a rabbit right in front of me while I was driving. It was heavier than he though and he almost smashed into my windshield but gained enough altitude at the last minute to miss.
My two youngest playing guitar hero both with guitars in hand and lost in the moment. They really got into it. By the time I returned with the camera, the moment was lost
There was a break in the clouds and only a tiny beam of sunlight illuminated the bright yellow dandelions within a huge field of the flowers while everything else remained bleak and gray.
My biggest archive is still the one in my head labeled "missed opportunities"
I have so many missed ones that I have to toss them out. ;)
i always have my little sd30 on me :)
I carry my Nikon8700 with me for the same reason, but it’s still too slow. I need a camera built into my glasses frames so I can just look, press my temple and take the pic.

This reminds me at one time I was driving with my wife and the girl in the car in front of me climbed above the sunroof and lifted up her shirt exposed herself. She was teasing some guys driving beside me.

I was like wth!!! and forgot to take a picture eventhough I had a P&S with me at that time... probably wouldn't go smooth with the wife :)

This reminds me at one time I was driving with my wife and the girl in the car in front of me climbed above the sunroof and lifted up her shirt exposed herself. ... Had a similar experience. Was fighting a particular nasty commute home when I finally reached the cause of the slow down. A young lady was pedaling her 10 speed with a thong swim suit on. Seems that the thong part more or less got lost in the... um.. scenery. Anyway, everyone just had to slow down and take a look.
