Maybe try this one in portrait orientation, versus landscape. Tones are nice...but the space to the left and right is a bit distracting.

After looking it i do agree, i may have to try that. I think being such a noob to the photography i was just happy to get the tones down on the face.

I'm not sure where these bookends popped up but they were handed down through the wifes family to us at some point.

Interesting...bookends with some history. Always good to have those memories.

Not sure if you used direct flash or not...but you can always use some tissue, or something, on the pop-up, for a bit more 'detail' on the right side of the face.
