Went down to the San Diego Velodrome for the first time tonight. I've never done any shooting like this, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I learned a lot, including that I have a lot to learn about sports photography.

Anyway, 496 shots taken with the 20D and the 70-200mm f/2.8L, and I ended up with 24 shots that, seeing as it was my first time, I'm happy with.

Sports (and birds in flight) are tough venues to shoot, Steve but these look pretty good. I still struggle to get a handful of keepers at soccer games;)

Nice compositions, Steve, but the whites and colors look flat on my monitor.

Nice compositions, Steve, but the whites and colors look flat on my monitor.

Steve, that last shot of the lonely rider is great. I love the solitude of the shot. Renay here, we met that Tuesday night at the velodrome.

All in all, nice work. It does look a little flat to me too. Was this a mix of ambient light and light from the stadium lights?

cool just saw ironbelle's post. neat stuff to try shooting. good job steve. think i may head down there one of these days.
