Hello everybody...

I finally took the plunge and bought a Canon EOS. We really could not decided between this or the Nikon d70 but when it came time to buy this is how things ended up.

Now, I've never had a fully automatic camera like this and I'm not sure about this AF sensors that I need to use when I take a picture. You know, the little red lights you seen when you focus...

I've been trying to get them to focus on a particular object but then another little red blip will focus on something else. Any thoughts on how these actually work?

Thanks, v

switch from automatic AF point selection to manual. pages 62-63 of the instruction manual. in the automatic AF point selection mode the camera selects the nearest point and it's not necessary the point you want to focus on.

It is a LOT easier to start with the center AF point as the only active AF point.. I'm not sure why Canon set that as the default... seems it would save them a few phone calls! :?

Get you camera off of the "Auto" (little green box) mode. In Auto, the camera will always use all focusing points and drive you nuts. Try using the "P" mode instead. It'll still function automatically for your but it'll give you the ability to control a lot of functions in the camera such as the focusing point.
