It looks like I may be lucky enough to get my first trip to the States next month (a work related conference). I would quite like to make use of cheaper US prices & good £:$ exchange rate to pick up a bargain or two while I'm there. So, as the conference is in Philadelphia, if anyone on the forum is from there: which is the best shop for me to visit?
Thanks,
Phil.

I'm not from within Philadelphia itself so I can't tell you of any photo store there. However, I am from someplace closeby and I know of this one place where you might do well in terms of prices. They've been known to equal or beat B&H prices sometimes, depending on the items and I have bought a couple of things from there.
The store is called New York Camera and Video (never did figure out why it's called that :? ) and it's located on Rt 309 in Quakertown, just north of Philadephia. You'll need a car, though, since it'll be a 45 minute drive from center city, Philadelphia to this place.

New York Camera and Video is located in Southampton PA and Quakertown PA (Southampton is closer, just outside the northeast section of the city) Southampton is also the mother store and their staff is excellent. They have a website www.NYCV.com. The site has there prices on it. They are not outstanding price wise but you may be able to call ahead to see that they have what you want in stock. If you let me know where you'll be staying in the Phila. area I might be able to narrow down some other good stores for you. They (NYCV) generally will not negotiate on prices. You'll get the old I only make a few dollars on every lens story. He does not keep a ton of stock (maybe a couple of each thing)but he does have a great selection in house. If you are looking for camera bodies like the 10D be sure to call ahead. He sells it for $1399 and there is usually a wait.

Thanks, both of you.
If I have a car I'll check NYC out. I've had a look at their website and the prices look good e.g. 70-200 f2.8 IS L is $1699.99 which at about 1.7 $ to the £ is £999.
The UK price is around £1689 or $2871!!!
I'm actually considering the non IS version as even at the above price I can't aford IS. I can't see a UK price for that though - is it not available here? At NYC the equiv Uk price for this one is £705 :-)
I'll also take your advice and ring ahead to check stock/pre-order.
Thanks again,
Phil
