All L lenses pretty much look the same colour wise. Enjoy that lens! I had one and loved it.

If it were true white, it would often be clipped on the histogram when another photographer took a picture of it in a pic for the sports mags. Canon is not stupid enough to lose the opportunity for free advertising! ;)

Yeah, I was pretty wierded when I pulled my 70-200 f/4L out for the first time and noticed it wasn't as white as I thought.

White or off-white, it will still trigger the L fever!

Oh You must have gotten a real old bad copy of it, you should not attach it to your camera because it my corrupt it, send it to me I will take it of yourhands, I have a real old camera that nothing would happen to if I use it.

Said tongue in cheek.

In all the pictures ive seen of the 70-200f/4 IS against the 70-200f/2.8 you can see a big difference in colour.
Cant see why you though it would be different to the photos of it.
But its a fantastic lens isnt it. ive only had mine about three weeks and i just love it.

I've held both in my hand, didn't see much of a difference.

Yeah, it's a little grey-ish...different from the other 70-200 lenses.
Man, fantastic combo in the 70-200 f4IS and 17-55IS.

Have some fun!!!

Well after much examination from the Canon website pictures of the two 70-200 f/4 IS and 2.8 IS, I can see the greyish tint of the f/4. However, it also apears that the f/4 has a brighter/bigger red ring.

Can't wait to order mine...

Umm... There's no difference in the off-white color or the red ring between lenses. ;)

nicksan --- are you saying there are different shades of "white" because i don't think that's true unless you go way back.

Concern about the not-quite-whiteness of the white lenses is a common reaction among people who have just unpacked their first one.

I don't notice the colour of mine any more. But I love what it does!

Congratulations on your two great new lenses!

Thats now my walkaround combo. Two of the best zooms canon make.
Spot on focusing every time and so sharp.
I actually find the 17-55IS feels bigger to me. maybe its because its fatter.

You going to love them. The only problem you will get is which one to use when. For mid range shots i can never decide. both are great but i find now that i change lens's more often

Wait until you see the 300 2.8. A little bit bigger than a 75-300...
