Very nice, the both of them. Though, the second one seems a little tilted to the right, which is easily fixed.
Colors are nice, and the dramatic sky in the first one adds to the overall mood.
Hope you had a grand ole trip. Thanks for sharing.

I see you're from MT, I went to MSU.
I see you have editing OKed so here's my attempt (crap work monitor):

I upped the saturation, tweaked the levels, and sharpened it a bit. It's a great shot, just needs a bit more PP.

What equip. did ya use to take em? if you don't mind telling a bit about the experience? Whatever you would like to tell is all good.

i used a 5d, and either a 16-35L, or the tamron 28-70, i also had a gd filter to help reduce the brightness of the sky and bring out the foreground some

I didn't check the exif...so excuse me for that, but what are some other settings? Time of day, f-stop, ss, wb? Do you incorporate all that in the shot as well?

Nice shots, and yup #2 is leaning a bit right.. and please don't take this wrong, but it is Yosemite. Being from CA, I've spent a lot of time there and we want to honor it with the proper name. Thanks for sharing

It's hard to take a bad picture at Yosemite, and you didn't. These are great.

Yosemite is almost like my second home! Both are nice. El Capitan (first one) looks like you shot it around Cathedral Beach?
I really like Mirror Lake (Mirror Meadow) and Mount Watkins, on the center/left. I agree, the horizon is a bit tilted and it looks a bit dark, but it is a great shot!

for this picture with the crooked horizon i had the shutter speed at 1/125 and f8, iso 100 and 16mm
i also used a gd filter to darken up the sky bring out the foreground. it worked well.... i agee that this one is too dark and i should streighten the horizon btw

IMO, 99% of the time you don't need a GND. If you blend two exposures, one for the highlights and one for the shadows, you get the same effect.

Other than a bit dark the one of Mirror Lake is gorgeous. after looking again. El Capitan IMHO, could be a bit lighter also. Both are beautiful shots but #2 does it for me. Hope you had fun visiting my home :)

i drove through your area, to the east of you is a highway that goes through the mountains kind of a short cut from the freeway, i dont remember what it is called. but its a nice 2 lane highway that weves down the mountain and has turn outs every 200 feet or so. it was the best road i have ever driven on. every one turned out if you came up behind them fast. it was a fun fun road. i wish other areas were that curdious when driving. (highway 101 orgeon coast in specific)

Sounds like you went through the Kern River Canyon. That road is a blast on a motorcycle :D. There are some beautiful spots through there. But Fri. & Sat. night is a bad time to drive it. Too many people that haven't learned how to cover up one eye after a night of drinking not to mention trying to straighten out the road. Got to get through it before the amature drunks come out.

yes that sounds right, and i can only immagine that the drunks are bad on that road.

I remember one night I was coming back to town through the canyon and it was so bad with them I pulled off the road and stayed put till well after midnight. Them fools actually had me afraid to drive through there. I later found out that the stock car races at the at the track about half way between the canyon and Bakersfield had let out. I guess beer and racing go hand in hand like any other sport and beer do :)
