430 has some good reviews though - and it's newer - and smaller, nah 550! I have 2 and love them both - unconditionally :)

I too think the 550 EX is better the only difference is that the 430EX is newer.

may i ask if i buy the 430ex can i use it on auto or do you have to manually set it thanks

You can use it on auto and manual settings.

I will be buying the 430 in May for my Birthday.

I have the 430, and haven't been left wanting. Most of my indoor shots are in rooms that are in the 12x16 range.
Never had a problem - unless I did something stupid and left my f stop at 16 or something silly like that
