Yes
Perfect. Costs one off 79 euros and is more flexible than shopping carts ten times the price.
Simple. All the options are already in the software. Simply turn on the one you want.
PayPal/Nochex/Cheque. People use PayPal with Ebay and so lots of customers already have an account. Nochex takes any kind of credit card, and cheque for those people who still dont trust online shopping.

It is for online sales, they offer the free gallery ones so that you can have it to match your online cart that they sell. we have it and like it alot. Great product and at a low price.

I'm looking for an easy to use gallery system. I've been trying simplephotos which automatically generates thumbnails - all you do is ftp the images into a folder in bulk and it automatically generates thumbnails (and caches them for subsequent viewers), but it doesn't have any sort of shopping cart functionality.
However, I'm doing quite a lot of theatre photography and selling prints to cast / crew / audience and something simple to use with a shopping cart. I'd prefer to use my own webspace rather than Smugmug or similar.
I've seen EOS templates, Pictures Pro and Lightboxphoto, but considering all suggestions.

Andrew, to use the EOS template in the way you would describe you would firstly configure it to your requirements (print sizes, prices, how you recieve payment etc).
I would suggest you create a subfolder (called images??) on your website and upload the cart to this folder. To add photos you use another program such as Breezebrowser to create a gallery which you upload to the same subfolder. And thats it :D

Gary - I presume your site runs EOS templates...
Sounds easy. I'll give it a try. They give a two week money back offer, so if I don't like it I have the option of a refund, providing I don't request a license code.

Try IView Media Pro (now Expressions). There are a zillion web templates, most of which are easy to adapt to add PayPal Buy Now buttons (you can find lots of info on this subject at http://thedambook.com (http://thedambook.com). The EOS system looks good but is a little pricey for my liking. JAlbum (http://jalbum.net/) also has some PayPal-ready templates.
The problem with all of the general open source ECommerce packages is that it's very difficult to upload hundreds of products (images) at once.

ok no worries
how user friendly is the interface and also can i set it up to run one set of rules for one galley (say basketball) and a diffrent set of pricing for another gallery (say football)
how easy is it to intergrate your own code into the program i.e a seach facility??
also can you set up a home page in the software or do you have to use your own codding??
Gary i see you have two sites both running the code , do you have to purchases it each time our is it a unlimited licence
thanks

Easy. You set your most often used prices in the main settings file and you can add a seperate bit of javascript as and when required. I copy and paste when I need to do this

Not to sure on this. I currently have a programmer trying to write something that will enable runners to search for their images by vest numbers

Not sure what you mean by this. Your websites homepage is something different

You assign an email address when you purchase the licence to use the template. Although the two carts look different they use the same email address

I paid for mine earlier (if you do use the US$ option as the exchange rate is more favourable!). I should receive approval and able to download the files shortly. Then I have 2 weeks to decide if its for me.

I use EOS Template, I like it. I think it's made me thousands of dollars in sales that I wouldn't have made if I didn't have online ordering. I let people pay with PayPal, that took about 20 minutes to set up - dead easy. Configuration in general took me an hour or two. Configuration is via a text file, so you better be reasonably PC literate to use EOS.
When someone orders you get an email, if they pay by paypal that usually happens right away so usually I get both emails at the same time - the order and the payment. On a rare occasion I give a refund if I can't do what's requested, that's easy through paypal, as is charging more if they want more things.
My workflow to produce galleries is to adjust in RAW, then add IPTC metadata in bridge so thumbnails appear in folders. I batch to high res JPG, the JAlbum with the EOS template makes the thumbnails and web pages. I ftp them to my server, and it's done. More workflow info in a link in my sig.
Happy to answer questions anyone has, post to this thread rather than PM please.
Edit September 2008 - EOS Template is really past its use-by date. It's complex to set up, and not very flexible. I now recommend Photographers Shopping Cart at www.picturespro.com

Hello
I have previously used BreezeBrowser to enable a Paypal set up for selling. I managed to fiddle around with the HTML in notepad and provide more options within the Cart facilities. I created a few different templates for different objects. It seemed very easy to understand.
Yesterday I purchased and downloaded EOS template as I wanted to experiment, have a change of scenery and also to include Paymate into my options as I have moved to the southern hemisphere.
Now, I don’t know whether the few glasses of wine I had last night have affected me but for 2 hours I have found myself staring into the monitor without a clue what to do! :o
Is there a ‘complete idiot’s guide’ to setting up a template? I only want a basic layout similar to the Paypal option in Breezebrowser but with Paymate. It’s the location I should put the 2 extracted files plus how to change the settings.js folder.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

There's no idiots guide, it's not particularly simple to set up. Use the forums, and the help files and instructions on the private yahoo site. It took me some time to set up, and i'm a software developer as well as a photographer.
I've stopped recommending EOS, it's a system past its use by date. I'm moving to the www.picturespro.com photographers shopping cart as soon as I get around to it.

I have looked through the help sections and to be honest have now felt more confused than when I first actually started! Perhaps it's not the option for me as I'm not that clued up on the actual development!
Thanks for replying though.

It can be a pain in the butt, but once you set it up it's done for good. Do it on your hard drive first, and worry about putting it on a server later. If you have specific questions ask away, i'll answer if I can.

I agree with Tim. It takes a while to set it up and get used to the workflow, but once you've gotten it to your specifications, then it's not so bad.
Use the Yahoo Groups Forum for EOS, there are tons of people there that are willing to assist you. And feel free to post some of your problems here, too. Between Tim, me, and the other EOS users on this forum, we should be able to somewhat help you out.
