Hey fellas, finally clicked on this thing. What a wonderful lens. Question: how weathersealed is the 50L? Canon says it's moisture and dust-resistant, but I was wondering if I could push it in the rain. :)

I think they say that so you dont go swimming with it. I think words like waterproof are what they stay away from.

I have personally shot in medium rain with lots of weather sealed gear (1D) and never once had a problem.

Thank you Mike I really appreciate the complement, but its all 5d2 50L. All I did was position him where the light was nice and press the button, I really didn't even do any post work. Funny you say that about his inner child, that is my dad who will be 81 this year.

Again thank for the nice words sometimes I get really discouraged with all this fine gear and limited ability where I am using my 5K camera like a p/s. Oh well, I don't gamble, smoke or drink so we all need some silly expensive hobby.

As a Dad myself, i appreciate those moments more than just about anything... in fact, my oldest son wanted to be a model maker when he was in 2nd grade. So, he create people out of aluminum foil, and gave me a set of five people on a stage he made of cardboard! I still have that gift prominently displayed for about 15 years :) )

I've finally found my favorite lens. Perfect focal length for me, along with a look that is unmatched. She may not be the sharpest in the arsenal, but you know what, I'm perfectly ok with that.

Would love to own a 50 L someday. However I just picked up a very nice Rokkor 58 1.2 and now just have to wait on the adapter.Looking forward to the 1.2 experience.Anyone on here have any thoughts
on the rokkor compaired to the 50 L?

btw guys, I really need your honest feedback on the last pic.
I received some really bad comments on that one but my friends aren't able to describe "why" it's bad.
So I thought my fellas from POTN can answer me.
** I am totally open to negative comments as they will allow me to improve, don't hesitate to give your honest opinions **

The lighting used was 2x Speedlite 580ex ii on both the right and left side triggered by the wireless flash control on my 7D
Shot directly on the Ducati.

The angle of the picture makes it looks too flat? don't see enough of the engine details and don't see handle bars....maybe :)

Yeah you're right, there's a lack of details in that shot

Few parts such as the front was overexposed and other parts were left underexposed.

All the other ones were bounce flash from the ceiling :P

It's much quicker than 85L in AF particularly when going from MFD to infinity. Slightly slower than 35L I think. Not as sharp wide open but very sharp at 1.8. Bokeh is fantastic though - better than 35L. Here are a few (wide open)

I can't decide rather or not I should get this or the 85L.

I do love shooting wide open and IQ / sharpness is more important to me since I mainly shoot static portraits / bridals portraits.

I would assume with Static portraits, speed would be less important than sharpness ( I'm mainly a sports shooter, though).
