Here's a full shot of that Butterfly (different angle) for you to ID Dave. Looks very similar to the one you posted but lacks those eye thingymajigs on the wings.

Thanks in anticipation, Trace.

mmm it seems that I've somehow gotten my names wrong - I did identify my butterfly, but can't remember the name, and it seems that I've named all of my recent images of it as 'common brown', even though it isn't. Trying to find one of the first images, which should be named correctly and will try and ID your variant a bit more when I've narrowed it down (I hate identifying butterflies, buggers to get right if you ask me).

Dave

edit: found my original image, it's actually a Cycad Blue. I think your own is a Bitter-bush Blue, which is related to the Cycad blue. Wingspan is around 21mm or so. Looks like a male 'summer coastal form' variant as well. I'm not 100% sure, cos my guide shows this with two one tiny darker spot on the rear section of the rear underside wing, which your image doesn't have. It does seem to fit the rest of the description though, especially the fringes of the wings being chequered brown/white.

Thanks Dave. I have another shot of another one with those eye thingy's on the wing but they dont show up much. When you say Cycad Blue, is there meant to be some blue on them. During summer, I came across some others slightly larger than the one I posted and the wings are an irredescent blue. Will post one shortly but not a macro shot.

Yes, they have blue upper wings.
