Thinking of a list of good bargain super light lenses that work too well for their own good. IE how can they only cost $xx.yz but be THIS good.
Obviously nifty is king, but any others?
I'm thinking the kit lens might be worthy, as there as some kick ass pictures in it's thread.
List them.

85mm f/1.8 It's not a double-digit lens, but it outperforms its price tag, IMHO.

I think the 85mm f/1.8 is should be included in your list. Obviously it costs more than the 50 but then virtually anything will. I don't actually own the 85 1.8 as I have the L but it compares well in a lot of ways. It's not *as* good but it's a fraction of the price too, and beats the L hands down for focus speed. Well worthy of inclusion I think.

Other than the suggestions made already: 35 F/2 and kit lens - for it's price it is very good.
Slightly more expensive: 24 F/2.8; 50 F/2.5 macro; 60 F/2.8 macro
Kind regards, Wim ;)
P.S.: got the TS-E 45 today, so TechTrio complete now :) - will be trying out this weekend, I hope :)

My budget choices (not necessarily cheap, but good value)
- 50/1.8
- 18-55 kit lens (still think it's simply amazing for the price)
- Canon 24 and 35mm non-L primes are quite good value.
- Tamron 17-50 - best value fast normal zoom.
- Canon 70-200 F/4 L - quite some money, but terrific quality in every way.
- Canon 55-200. It's light, it's cheap, it's small, it's useable - it even takes pictures!
- Maybe the 85/1.8, but there's nothing available to really compare it to.

Sigma 28mm f1.8, fast, sharp, Mag ratio of 1:2.9 and all for about $250.
On a crop, it's a perfect nifty fifty.
Second choice is a Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro for about $250 as well.

jealous.
I'm hoping to get the 24mm by this summer. But I might be getting a waterproof housing first, haven't decided... Enjoy having all 3 though. You're the first I've know with this trifecta!

- Canon 24 and 35mm non-L primes are quite good value.

Much overlooked little gem, albeit a bit dated.

Tokina 19-35 - very overlooked, but excellent lens. One of those that carried the tag "fantastic plastic" - and very inexpensive.

I always felt Siggy 30mm 1.4 to be a best bang for the buck.
When I had it.. it was on my camera 90% of the time.
So yes.. it costs over $400, but in usage vs. price aspect.. it was the best bang for the buck for the cropped sensor.

geez, many of you seem to be posting value for money lenses rather than fantastic plastic lenses. i think so far the only plastic fantastics i've seen you guys post are the 18-55 and 17-50SP.
yea, and there's the ef 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 which is called the pocket rocket. i haven't tried this lens at all, but its supposed to very good for its price, weight and size.
