Download http://photography-on-the.net/ee/beta/RC4_fixes_1.zip
1. Fixes copy/move/delete editor ftp problem when internal ftp is used (binary mode added).
2. Adds a new feature in EE1.5 RC4:
In upload page you see a switch
"SPECIAL: no ftp or resize automation (manual file upload)"
When this is switched on upload page does everything but ftp or resize actions. In other words it inserts photos to database normally but you will have to resize and upload the files manually.
Result of the insert is displayed in report windown in bottom of the page (after successfull insert) and on that report you can see the paths and filenames you need to upload.
This function replaces old manual input system á la EE 1.22 style. Just place very small photos in upload folder for EXIF/IPTC/XMP and filename reading and press a button.
Known issue: status of the switch is not remembered.

Hmmm.... I'm running slow tonight..err... this AM...
So if I have manually copied or FTP'd all sizes including thumbs & microthumbs to server, setup my size paths, created my exhibition, set my default photodata - how do I get EE to process them & add them to the EE database. As if they were processed in the UPLOAD method ??
Wouldn't EE 'see' them in photo editor & you could 'add unused' in 1.22 ?
But Photo Editor is now 'greyed out' & inactive from menu ... ???

Pekka, where do the new files go?
Input folder. The 1.5 files have unique names unlike 1.3.

This function replaces old manual input system á la EE 1.22 style. Just place very small photos in upload folder for EXIF/IPTC/XMP and filename reading and press a button.
Does this mean to make a small copy of the 1.22 version containing the EXIF/IPTC/XMP info, place it in upload folder, select manual - and it will extract the EXIF/IPTC/XMP info from the provided copy - and properly insert all other thumbs/microthumbs/paths into the database from the 1.22 versions. Provided all paths are setup OK. ??

Hi,
Anybody knows why I am getting these error messages.
I get this when I am using the upload to database page:
Warning: Unlink failed (Permission denied) in /home/virtual/site119/fst/var/www/html/gallery/input/EDITOR_upload.php on line 122
I get this for every jpg that I upload:
Warning: Rename failed (Permission denied) in /home/virtual/site119/fst/var/www/html/gallery/input/SCRIPT_autorename_files.php on line 50
Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

Some Manual Input enhancements I would drool over in the next release ....
I put all my galleries/albums in one directory/folder and all sizes within each. These are set up on my client system where I enhance, resize & set up thumbs & microthumbs, e.g.,
MainAlbumImageDataBank
/Gallery01
/Gallery01/Original
/Gallery01/ResizedForVGA640X480
/Gallery01/ResizedForSVGA800X600
/Gallery01/ResizedForXVGA1024X768
/Gallery01/Thumbs
/Gallery01/MicroThumbs
/Gallery02
... etc ....
I typically only put the IPTC & JPEG Comments on the 'Originals' - but sometimes also on the 1024X768 size.
The entire Gallery with all its path sizes is then FTP'd to my server - at a directory/folder pointed to by a specific URL; outside the EE folder - & the Gallery basic data set up. To satisfy EE's need to pick up IPTC info I then copy the originals to the UPDATE folder within EE. To satisfy the need to have thumbsµthumbs within EE, i then copy them to a folder pointed to by a specific URL, within EE. I then use the UPLOAD function, selecting the images & the 'Special - No Ftp or Resize' box.
This all works - but its clumsy!
It would be nicer if EE .....
o allowed me to specify the URL of my original/IPTC laden images for UPLOAD; outside of EE
o allowed thumbs & microthumbs to exist at a URL outside EE; i.e., in my Gallery01 folder above.
o retained the 'Special No FTP/resize' Option to allow normal or pre-existing manual resizing.
o followed the URL's above during size & path analysis & checking, without error.
In this way, no moving around of images on the server would be required.
And the time to set up each gallery would be reduced
And sugarplums would dance in my head ......
and my dreams would be complete!!

Hi,
I'm having problem with "UPLOAD TO DATABASE" page:
1) I manually uploaded small images to "input/UPLOAD" folder
ex. image1.jpg & image2.jpg
2) I selected the photos in "STEP 2" and select the desired sizes (medium & big) in "STEP 3"
3) I select target exhibition in "STEP 4"
4) in "STEP 5, I use default settings but also click on "SPECIAL: no ftp or resize automation (manual file upload)"
5) after clicking on "UPLOAD" button in "STEP 6", I see that all the files in "input/UPLOAD" (from STEP 2) all got renamed:
ex. d5a_image1.jpg & cae_image2.jpg
WHY? How can I prevent that so I can see the correct image names in "open photo editor" & "open photo browser"?
Thx

EE renames files if they already are in database. Perhaps you did couple of upload attempts with same files?

I probably that. So how do I clear those files? I tried deleting the exhibition and restart but that didn't work. Where in the database is the image name being stored? let's say I have image1.jpg in exhibition1, does it check the name image1.jpg again even after I delete exhibition1 and then recreate exhibition1 again? Or should I just delete exhibition1 and create a new exhibition2 and then upload image1.jpg again.
thx

Well, I deleted exhibition1 and created a new exhibition2. I manually updated the same set of thumbs to "input/UPLOAD" directory. In "UPLOAD TO DATABASE" form, I selected these images and target the new exhibition2 and enable "SPECIAL: no ftp or resize ...". After "UPLOAD", the files got renamed again ... So does that mean the image name has to be unique even though they belong to different exhibitions and also image locations?
What about if I have IMG0001.jpg under one gallery/directory and IMG0001.jpg under another gallery/directory? My camera counter reset to 0001 after I took more than 9999 images. Hmmm...
Please help? Does this mean that I should now on rename all my image name to something else since the first 9999 images have already exist in the database?
thx
Hieu

You can clean up the upload folder before uploading new photos. There is no need to have old uploads there (keep originals at home in case you need to resize later). Just to make sure: I hope you do not point any size paths to the upload folder?
EE really does not care what the file names are, the system will find the photos. It does not allow duplicate filenames for different photo id's. Exhibitions contain list of photo id's.
