I just received a 77mm Hoya Ultra Super Slim Ring UV-POlarizer filter ordered from a very reputable dealer, and was not sure of how thin this filter's ring should be. If you have one of such, can you measure the ring and tell me how deep or thick it is?

The reason why I asked this question is because it does not look very thin to me. In fact, the ring looks quite thick. I measured it with a caliper, from across the threads to the front (with the cap removed), and the results are as follows: 7.18mm (0.282").

I away out of country, but my 77mm Hoya Ultra Super Slim Ring UV-Polarizer filter has no extension thread to fit a lens cap (I have to remove it to fit cap)

Mine came with a lens cap, too, but I see no difference in the ring thickness when compared to another filter of the same size. However, the markings around the ring match an Ultra (thin) filter instead of another kind.

Well, that is including the threads. It has the same thickness as a standard UV filter, with a threaded part the same thickness as the standard UV-filter, so it will be fine. You loose the thread width when the filter is mounted on the lens.

Note that a standard, non-slim polarizer version is about 10-11 mm thick, due to the turning ring.

Kind regards, Wim
