Just wondering if you can use Photobucket like you do Flikr- as your site? I noticed a lot of people use Flikr and Smugmug... tell me the pros and cons of these type, please. I want to put my photos on a site, but do not want to pay just yet. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have both Flickr and Smugmug, and prefer Smugmug. I no longer use Flickr due to the lack of right click protection/watermarking and inability to use the site for ecommerce. Flickr is also a photosharing rather than a photohosting site. You must link back to Flickr if you post an image on another site. To do otherwise is a violation of their TOS. I just found it to be lacking, so I moved on. The only reason I continue to have an account there is due to the fact that I moderate two groups. I rarely upload anything but snapshots to that account.

Liza, do you need the pro account for the right click protection?
I'm going to get my own site and am just trying to narrow down my options.
Right now I'm looking at Smugmug, Photosite and Zenfolio.
Thanks, Clark

Yes, you do need to get the pro account for right click protection, as far as I know. To me the $149 is worth it. I'm not so naive to think it will stop them from image theft, but if you make it more difficult for a thief, they usually move on. The customer service with Smugmug absolutely rocks, too. The other day, I had a problem with the way EZ prints did something and I mentioned that I did not like that lab. The owner of the company responded to my email and asked for my input about alternatives. To me, that speaks volumes.

Thanks for the reply, I'm still up in the air on where to go. Photosite lets you have a .com address, which would be nice. Just not sure where to go. Thanks again, Clark

You can have a .com address with Smugmug, too. Just buy a domain name from GoDaddy.

If you want a good free gallery site I would recomend Googles Picasaweb found at http://picasaweb.google.com/
The only downside would be the fact that you can't encode the photo's into your posts, instead you would have to give them a link.

The basic account at Zenfolio allows you to disable right clicking and you can also prevent the download of full size original pics. I was glad to see that these features were in Zenfolio's basic account - which you can get for $20 by using a referral code........more bang for the buck with Zen!

I have flickr and photobucket. I use the free account on photobucket to post pics here in this forum because it is easy. Just upload to photobucket on the 800x600, copy address, and post here. Eleminates PP quite a bit for web posting here. I use flickr just for the privacy accounts so only friends and family can view and download photos. I don't have a formal type of gallery yet, only use these two to share photos as a hobby.
