I have been asked to recommend a camera to a doctor that does aesthetic medicine to take their before & after shots. Needs to be a reasonably priced compact P&S with a good enough lens & flash to be able to pick up small details in skin and not smooth them out. The prints are generally used for print & web materials.

Any ideas/ suggestions welcome as I really only know SLR's.

Also if you have any recomendations as to which desktop type of printer works well that would be great too. ( the kind that reads the media cards directly and makes a print)

Thanks!! :)

I will post this in the G series section too as I am not sure which is most appropriate.

I would recommend going flashless with a Fujifilm F20: http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-Finepix-Digital-Optical-Stabilization/dp/B000GFZTQO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-7153649-7356918?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1177207709&sr=8-1

I've seen way too many indoor p&s photos with blown highlights (especially of the skin) because of the poor built-in flash. The Fuji has extraordinary high ISO capabilities that render images without too much noise, just like our DSLRs, and with accurate color.

What about a used DSLR? That would deal a lot better with low light situations (i.e., indoor situations) than any P&S. Indeed, noise will very likely be an issue with a P&S (especially the new ones with high MP). You can find used 300D for the price of a new P&S nowadays.

For this type of pics, I would go for a DSLR.
