Hi, I know there are lots of questions about websites. I just have one direct question if someone might could help me with.

Does anybody reading this use Go Daddy for their photography website? If so, could you maybe send me a link to your site, or give me some advice on how easy or hard it is to set up. I am really not good at making websites, so I need someone who has already been there and done that.

Thanks,

Teeny

I used to use go daddy, their control panel is pretty straight forward, as long as you know a bit about ftp and html you can put up a site in no time.

Hey Logan, hate to be nit picky but did you intentionally mean to put "Untitled-1' as your title for the entrance page? Juust wondering.

I only use Go Daddy for purchasing my domain names. They have a pretty decent control panel for that as compared to others.

I just set up my site about a month ago on GoDaddy. They are cheap & have support 24/7.

I have a lot of 1st's. This is my 1st post to the Forums. :) This is my website as well. I'm also new to photography & new to my business too. I'm jumping in with all feet. However, going after this as a "love" & if I do well...great. IF not thats fine too. I enjoy it nonetheless.

www.DottyMPhotography.com (http://www.DottyMPhotography.com) You are welcome to critique it. My primary site is on GoDaddy, my blog is wordpress.

Did anyone use GoDaddy to site up there site or ya'll do it yourselves? I've never actually set up a site, just helped with friends and did the dinky assignment in comp class. Just wondering which is easier. I know basics but not enough to make my site how I want it. I could get friends, but just wondering since we're on the topics ish.

I too use GoDaddy for 2 sites that I have. One I used GoLive and Dreamweaver to create. The other I used iWeb. I used an ftp app to upload them. All were quick and painless. My former hosting company called me every name in the book when I switched but I ended up with 5 years of prepaid registration and hosting for the cost of 2 with my former company. I highly recommend them.

Thanks for all the replies. And good luck to Dotz for jumping it! I am taking a business class right night that focuses on photography. And website was one of the first things they said you need to have after you figure out your prices.

Hollister, I checked out your site and really liked it. Did you do that on Go Daddy? Do you have to have any knowledge of html ? What I need to know is how easy it is to set up. I have no experience with that. Is it templates? Any help would be appreciated it. Also I noticed you had a good amount of pics on their, which package would you go with?

Thanks,

Teeny

Godaddy are the biggest host in the world, according to them. My flatmate has a few sites with them, through him i've found the support slow and not always useful. Others here find it fine though, so it's probably ok.

I use www.hostgator.com and i'm constantly amazed by their support. Most support calls are replied to within 20 minutes, even low priority ones. Their admins are gurus. Uptime is great. Between a half dozen or so sites I have hosted with them I get around 1 million hits per month, and downtime is almost non-existent. Price is good too, especially if you have more than one site. I can't recommend them highly enough.

You can use any web host with any type of computer.

I use them .. The only fault I found is that I cannot easily choose the order the images are displayed on a "photo" page

GoDaddy FTW! I use them to in conjunction with my SmugMug Pro account so I can have my domain name. It only took me a few minutes to register and setup my domain name. the setup is straightforward and the control panel is no-nonsense. The next day I even got a call from a real live person thanking me for signing up and asking me how my experience was with setting up my domain. I like it!

I just noticed that the few sites listed here with godaddy run really slow, under 300KB/sec.
Are they normally that slow?

Rumjungle

Zepher, what do you use to determine how fast a site is?

I have a program called netspeed on my machine, shows upload and download speeds in real time, as well as total bandwidth since last reboot.

Thanks Manny. Now that we're on the subject, I started wondering how slow my site is.

Godaddy's fine for people with basic needs, generally, but their support is average at best.

300kBps isn't really slow, that's about 1.5Mbps, which is as fast as some low end broadband plans go.

I use to use go daddy, but they are no longer my daddy anymore. I've moved over all my domain registrations to dotster.

The issue came with my sisters wedding site, that I setup for her a little over a year prior to her wedding. In the meantime her credit card changed #. But she forgot to inform me to update the auto renewal on the account. Go daddy, never informed me of this (sure I know some will say this was my fault), however on reactivation of the domain (once I found out that it went down after the 1st year) they wanted $60 just to reinstate it, even though they were still holding onto the domain. BS I call. But we had to pay for it, as all oversea relatives knew about the domain/site, and it was too late to change.

Therefore I now have all my domains registered on dotster, who email me every month about 6 months prior to domain renewal date, and also IF the renewal doesn't go thru, they'll still hold onto it for at least 1-2 months for free.

$60!?! That blows. I don't blame you.

Zepher

Some places charge upwards of $120 if your domain goes into Redemption.
